We got about 1/4" of rain just about dark yesterday. We needed it and could have used more. What we did not get then was the high winds and hail that came with that storm. They all went to one side of us. I haven't talked to anyone else this morning so I've no idea just there this did happen.
I have been lifting potatoes the past couple evenings. I'm down to the last cultivar and they appear to be the best harvest so far. Lots of big marble, pea size, and many golf ball size. Only a few good size potatoes so far. Since Jack and I only need small servings they are probably just what we need. One bed still is hard and compacted even after years of amending with leaves, grass clippings, stable cleanings, etc. It is also drier than most of the beds but the plum tree is close to it so that may have a lot to do with it.
We need to go to town today so I need to get myself together. The new gas cap for the lawn mower is here, the scratch grain supply is really low and we are totally out of cat/dog feed. I was never able to get ahold of the lady we get fresh milk from last night so we'll have to buy milk at the store again today. It just isn't the same tho. I have to get some money orders too and get them into the mail.
I really need to get a cage sitting out by the garage fixed up for the mother hens and baby chicks so I can start putting them into the bird house at night instead of the breezeway(an inclosed porch between the house and the garage). I always end up with chicks and hens who think they should live in the breezeway permanently. It sometimes takes weeks to get them to make the switch to the birdhouse as a permanent home. The ones who grew up in the utility room last winter will still readily come into the room if the door is left open. They check out the breezeway everyday to see if the door is open.
Since GOD has given me such a wonderful day to work outside I need to make the best use of it I can.
GOD bless and keep each and all of you.
