looking for agastache rupestris
greencheese, I started some of these from seed this spring, but need to check to see if I have seed left. I got them in a trade, so I also need to see if they match the description. It seems to me the plants look more like anise hyssop, but darker leaves, than actual hyssop. Will check and get back to you.
weezingreens,
what did you decide on the leaves?
I've grown them both... Agastache rupestris and Agastache foeniculum. The only way I could tell the plants apart was from the fragrance of the leaves. Rupestris has a minty fragrance. Foeniculum has a licorice fragrance. Other then that... they look exactly alike.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, Greencheese. I'll check the plants today & let you know if I can identify them. It's been raining the last few days, so I've been inside. Fall has arrived in Seward, Alaska!
Thanks for the info, Sue. Maybe I can post a picture. Do they overwinter in your zone 5?
Greencheese,
I have Agastache sunset but lost the original packet for Latin name.I grew it from seed this January,it says it's hardy to zone 5. It has silvery stems(very licorice) and salmon flower that hummingbirds love. I have collected only about 10 seeds so far. They are a pain in the butt to harvest. If I am able to collect more I will trade with you if you want.I have two mature plants but want more for my garden so I am not sure how many seeds I'll be able to get. They are very good germinators. PLMK if interested.
Weez do you have the annise hyssop that has pinkish red flower?
It just dawned on me that I confused A.rupestris with A.rugosa (Korean Mint). Disregard my post above -lol.
Big duh!
And no Weez... I haven't had rupestris wnter over here. I've tried it twice from seeds so far and none of them have lived. It doesn't bloom all that well here either. I imagine our summers just aren't warm enough to keep it happy...

Thanks, Sue. I thought as much, but your previous post gave me hope! LOL! Regular anise hyssop doesn't winter over for me, so I was dreaming, I guess!
Greencheese,
Just found the package, I thought I threw it away and yep it is A . rupestris, these burgers... Now I am checking them everyday. You cannot hurry them along but what the problem is...well one day I'll check and they look a little green so I wait and it seems as though the next day I check on them they are gone? Popped out? Wind blew them out?Wondering if Sam my little hummingbird is knocking the almost ripe ones out. I am up to seed count 14...no wonder these seed companys charge so much.
My 3 years old said "Mommy what are you doing" I said "be very quiet I am collecting seeds" He thinks I am crazy but sometimes even if you breathe on them just right, there on the ground and well then just forget it. So I am still working on them and they still have blooms.
Oh you are lucky if you start them in Spring you'll get blooms because of your zone...I just saw there is a new color out(lavender) I don't know if it is as pretty though. I am not sure about the leave scent on the new one. Status=still collecting. Is there such thing as a seed dance? Ha Ha pot
I've collect thousands of Anise Hyssops Agastache x "Blue Fortune" seed, if you'd like some send me an email Greencheese.

Marc hi ! the choc. irises look good, how is your Mrs. moon doing?
Glad the chocolate iris is doing well....the Mrs. Moon is growing slowly, but plugging along.
Should be better next spring I would think.
Yes this is her first year for you.Mrs. moon is not an aggressive plant but mine has grown well and you should definately have more next year. TTYL Amy
Greencheese is twenty seeds enough? They are fresh and do have a high germination rate?
Could someone please tell me if A. Rupestris is aggressive? I've heard that it may be. Thanks! April
I didn't hear of this plant until last year, but I just checked plant database and it didn't say anything about aggressivness. Mine has not gotten that big this year. I don't see any runners or babies and it has been flowering for some time. My hummimgbirds go crazy for it so I doubt if it was aggresive I would get rid of it anyway. I really don't know but I'll try to find out.
potof gold,
did you get my email? if not, i am interested in the 20 seeds. what would you like in exchange?
thanks, jean
Greencheese..no I didn't get your e-mail. I would like some of your columbine.
