Where can we go in a hurricane?

We now live in a beautiful modular home on school property for which my son, a police officer, is the guardian. In the event of a hurricane we have the school as the designated shelter but they don't allow pets. This is a problem for I would never leave my best friend to die in a hurricane. She is always by my side. Some may think me as being foolish but we as pet owners understand. Does anyone have any ideas as to where we can seek shelter? I will not leave her under any conditions?

P.S. She is a Shih-tzu.
