investigation@ebay.com Hoya lovers beware if you use E-bay!

Jackson, GA

Hi All!
Just thought I'd take a minute to put out a warning on this new E-bay spoof!!!!
I got an E-mail with the above E-dress. The E-mail said my security had been compromised and if I didn't reply within 72 hours my E-bay account would be suspended.
It provided a link that looked legitimate, it took me to an official E-bay sign in link (it looked like it anyway).
I had to put in my password....
The next step asked for my credit card and banking info. It looked legit as well and even had my name address ect....
already entered.
A blue link at the bottom said 'Terms and Conditions' when I clicked on that it was credit card terms and conditions.
Wellllll, I haven't signed up for ANY new credit cards & DON'T plan to!!!!!
THANK GOODNESS I had read at GW about something simular that happened to Gemila and someone else, or I could have easily fallen for it!
I reported it to spoof@ebay.com and got a letter back almost immediately that it was NOT from E-bay and would be reported to the authorities!
In the meantime I went to E-bay and changed my password since I had entered it to get to the next phase of the E-mail!
Just a heads up for any of you E-bay sellers or buyers!
E-bay will NEVER send an E-mail asking for such info! You should go directly to E-bay.com, sign in THEN update any info!

Thanks Lesli,
these types of E-Mails are on the rise and Messages may get spoofed for a Bank, PayPal, Credit Card, etc.
Never give out personal information via E-Mail and do not use the links provided in E-Mails as these also can be spoofed, instead go manually to the website by typing the URL or using your links in the favorites.

You can also check here at the DG Computer forum for some of these reports:
e.g http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/444750/

Also make sure you run a Spyware remover/detection program like Lavasoft Adaware since only clicking on the E-Mail could have installed a Trojan program like a Keylogger which may spy on you typing passwords and usernames (e.g E-Bay) and if this info is retrieved by a Hacker they can gain access to your accounts and can cause alot of harm until it you detect it.

The last two bits of contamination in my computer were from "Microsoft"...except it wasn't Microsoft. I open nothing, give no information over the internet and try to be stealth. And if in doubt, I ask DH...better to blame him than me!!! Somehow I got a worm which disabled Norton AntiVirus...simply got another program to disable the worm...

This is ALMOST as confusing as Hoyas!

I get these all the time from someone saying they are Ebay, Paypal, Earthlink and various banks. Please be careful about emails like that. A reputable company will never ask for information thru a link in a email.

Lesli & all,
I just got an email supposedly from Paypal. "Receipt for Your Payment to phonebuyer" was on the subject line and in the body, it said that I made a paypal payment to this "phonebuyer" for $278.99 It gives a link, etc. I quickly forwared it to Paypal and they promptly replied it was a spoof and not to believe it. Now I get another from ebay stating the same thing, that I won an auction from "phonebuyer" and I can even win a car by clicking on the link. I would imagine there might be those who panic and try to click on the link thinking, "I didn't make that payment!!!!" so I just wanted to update you all so you don't get caught by the scams. HTHS!

Thanks Gemila! I've also been getting a few E-mails from various banks wanting to update my account info.... odd considering I have no account with any of those banks.
The world be a much nicer place if all the crooks would get a job rather than trying to rip off the honest people!
