Blue MOON

Dearborn Heights, MI(Zone 6a)

(we call them "Moon Flowers.")
Got the normal white Datura (bush type), picked up a 3rd at a different nursery. Needed to fill some space.
Anyway this one is WAY different! Didn't notice anything until the buds on this one looked different the the others.
A pale, blue-lavender show up on the edges of the buds. The the first opened! WOW! It's a pale, beautiful, blue huge flower.
The form and size is different than the regular white. I will be collecting seeds from this one. Curious if it will have the "thorned" pods or not.

Pretty bloom.

Hello :)
It is the first that I see with that clear tone of color since my cross 'Heavenly Blue' I bet it has a nice perfume :) The reason, why it differes from the white moonflower is because they belongs to two different species. The white is D. inoxia and the pretty blue one is B. wrightii. Lovely foliage as well. Are all the leaves heartshaped as those on the picture? I guess, that seedpods will be forming. Bees or flower-flies will assure that, but if too many flowers drops, without setting pods, you might want to hand pollinate future forming flowers :) The pods will be spiny all right. There is a broad variety within the species, but till now I have only seen one with microscopical spines (see picture of DATU-72b). Pods usually looks like those on D. inoxia (white moonflower), but are less pubescent.

DaylilySLP I love the light blue color. When it sets pods, would like to trade you out of some.
