Does anyone know what this plant is?

Hawkesbury, ON(Zone 4b)

My sister gave me the seeds marked peruvian lily, she is now saying she has no idea what this is. Help it is so nice and my friends want seed but I don't know what the name is.

How nice to *meet* another Canadian.....I'm not sure that you are new but am happy to see you posting!

Looks like it might be a hardy hibiscus......just guessing here tho'. If no one here can id it for sure post it in the identification forum. I'm postive one of the experts there will know exactly what it is. :)

I wasn't aware of the identification forum. I have been a member for a year but it seems that I only come when I have a problem. I am going to send the leaf as well as the blossum to the experts. Thanks and happy gardening.

Looks like Hibiscus trionum to me, now that I see a leaf.

Quite apart from the ID - how hardy are they? Is this another one for the living room in the winter or can they actually survive the prairie outdoors. Very pretty Echoes. Started from seed or acquired as a plant?

And Hau, you should hang out even when you don't have problems. We're actually quite a good bunch.

These are like weeds, I planted some a few years ago and they're still coming up here and there. They are going to bloom very late this year though. I meant to try some in planters this year. Think they might be good for that. I think I better see if I have any seed left, cause it might not set this year.

Here is a thread about collecting seeds from your Hibiscus Hau: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/451260/

So..... decided it is non-hardy hibiscus?

Echoes, what is your pretty little one?
Inanda -

I think it's an annual. Well here it is anyway. Hibiscus trionum.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I've noticed it refered to as a hardy, rather than a tropical, by those that live in zones 8 or 9.
Here is the write-up in the plant database: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/1888/index.html

That's the other one Pam. The one I was referring to was not the same as Hau's.

I posted it in answer to inanda's question 4 posts up. I also thought it would be a good place to put the direct link to the PlantDataBase for Hau.
