Newbie at seed collecting and trading

When you offer to trade seeds, what is the approximate number of seeds you trade in each transaction?

I have gotten anything from 5 seeds (something precious or larger - like brugmansia, daylily etc.) to an envelope stuffed with seeds (marigold, cosmos, zinnia or flowers that make a huge number per bloom). I think it's important to clean all the non-seed parts out as best you can before sending. I'd much rather get a dozen clean clematis seeds than a ziploc bag full of crumbly old flower heads - maybe other folks would beg to differ, but that's my opinion.

Perhaps when you agree to trade with someone, you can mention the number of seeds you plan to send for your end of the trade, so the other person can act accordingly.

Happy seed trading !

Thanks, Eileen. That is very helpful. I agree about getting clean seeds. I asked a question on another seed thread that you might know the answer to. The subject line is yarrow.

Well, not really... I saw your question and hoped someone would answer - I shook out my yarrow dried seed heads and got alot of dusty looking crud! Even with a magnifying glass, the seeds didn't jump right out at me. I do hear that yarrow doesn't come true from seed, but don't know if that's absolutely true. Hope you get some good info.

hi, I'm sort of new at this, too. The way I've packed mine is how many are in a seed head. That seems to be true to what I've received from others, also. I certainly agree with the clean seed issue. It's always worth the extra effort. Good luck.

Thanks, Tanya.
