I bought a plant this spring of B. sanguinium? but someone told me it was a bi-annual. how do I propogate this then?
Save seeds, take cuttings, it's done so well this summer ,that I'd love to keep it for next year too.
When I look at some of the photos on here, and count the amount of blooms they have, it puts mine to shame, but I still like it, perhaps mine will grow like that one day.

I hear that 10 days in the water will root them nicely... haven't had the pelasure of trying this info for myself though.. Gordon

Sue, that is Brugmansia sanguinea, if you're a true zone 9 then it should survive outside during the winter. You may want to winter protect it if it gets very cold. Cuttings can be made, rooted in water or soil. I prefer to grow new ones from seed as b. sanguinea tend to get virused after a few years.

thanks folks, think I'll hedge my bets and do cuttings, seeds and try to keep original plant going.

sue, if you have more than one, then try the indoor "saving" like I am doing this winter.

Well fate helped me along there. Was stood on the patio, when a gust of wind blew the pot off it's stand. Consequently loads of stems broke off, so there were my cuttings!... not quite how I wanted to do it, but I think a higher person was telling me 'to get on with it'

sueone, sorry the winds trashed your plant but like you say, "there's your cuttings." Hope the cuttings root and grow great for you. Wish I had the climate to grow this type Brug.

thanks ahelms, these were plants from a generous person, who sent some cuttings in the post.
I didn't thonk that I had a chance in hell getting them to take as they'd taken quite a while to get here, lost in the post somewhere , as all parcels seem to.the ends were dried, but took they did. Stood in a pot on my kitchen window sill over the winter, growing away beautifully.
Can't wait to see what colours they are. There's a big fat bud on one now, just waiting to burst open.

Sueone, packages overseas aren't the only ones that get lost. It took a packge from California over six weeks to get to North Carolina by priority mail and one from Mississippi over ten days.

Good luck Sueone, I hope it opens up nice for you.

Is a B. sang. really a bi-annual?
