Nature, nice picture. My SG is still somewhat lanky and has not filled out. It is blooming however. Wondering if I should pinch off the blooms until it is a bit bigger and filled our more?
thanks, Michelleb

Michelleb,

As long as the plant is outside in it's permanent postion there should be no need to pinch the blooms back; if it were still inside, then maybe I would. I consider the first truss of blooms to be practice for the plant, and let it be.

Sungolds' always seem to be long & lanky to me. Their stems usually don't get real thick like some determinates I've grown. That's why I grow them tall in the house before putting them outside. I take off many of the suckers to start other plants while inside; and bury the roots lenthwise, or slanted down, to within one inch of the topmost leaf. If it doesn't bend well, I try to gently force it with a bent cut up coat hanger & some well placed rocks. Later on I will remove the rocks or bricks to place along a side dressing of well composted manure. The long stem then becomes roots for the plants and make for a hardier well fed plant.

Tomato plants are shallow rooted plants anyway, so giving the roots a bigger start gives the plant a better boost to grow more fruit. IMHO.

Thanks Robin. Yes, my SG is in the ground and has been since April 1. The blooms are open now and I'll leave them be. I may let a sucker grow so I can start another as you have suggested.

Again, thanks for the info. I love that picture!!!

Yes, very yummy Michelle. Makes me drool thinking about them once again. If I don't have several plants there would never be any to bring in the house... LOL!
