Hello,
I thought it might be about time for me to introduce myself to everyone formally! I've already done a couple trades and posted on a few forums, moved from one state to another, and now that I'm settled, it's time to say hello!!!
I've moved from a little town in the desert of WA to a wonderfully green place on the coast of OR. There is green as far as the eye can see here and not one piece of SAGEBRUSH!!!! I love it!!! Went from a Z6 to Z8b/9a, and feel like I've come home!!
We've got a myriad of beaches minutes away from us, some are filled with sea lions, some are hot spots for whale watching, some are going to be really cool to learn how to surf! I live just down the road from the Tillamook cheese factory for those of you familiar with the cheese, milk and (OOOOHHHHH YUM!) Tillamook ice cream! I had initially thought that I would be able to lose the 30 or so pounds I've gained from 5 kids, but since any route I would take to walk would take me right by the Tillamook factory, and I cannot grow any will power to save me from the oh so divine ice cream, I'll just have to learn to walk faster to burn more calories or never walk anywhere EVER!!! :O)
I would like to say that you to the wonderful people who have traded with me so far, and thank you to all of those who have read my post in the prayer request forum and have added their prayers to ours, it means more to me than I can ever express.
I hope to meet more of the wonderful people here at DG, as much as I feel at home here in OR., I feel that I've found an online home too!

Well, I think it's about time I said hello!
Well, welcome to you and congratulations on your new Adobe, I agree with you, everyone in this community is really great! I would love to try Tillamook ice cream, guess we'll just have to wonder thru your neck of the woods one of these days.
Hey, welcome to Daves. I'm so glad you have made it around the forums okay. Wow, sounds like your new place must be awesome. I'm afraid I would have trouble passing up a little ice cream or cheese on my way to go whale watching. LOL!
hel;lo from new york state. enjoy
Welcome from Pakistan.
Welcome raven_locks. What town in Wash., did you leave. I have lived in this area all my life and love it except on days like today. Just got back from Omak , 25 miles south, had to take my little dog down for boarding while I am gone for a week. It was 109 hot degrees down there. Here where I live it isabout 1450 feet and some higher than Omak, when I got home a couple of hours ago it was 103 here.
My daughter is flying out to Spokane Sept. 3 for 10 days. My youngest son gave me a gift certificate for 3 nights, I chose Seaside OR, as haven't been there for several years. However when I made the reservation they had changed fro Seaside to Warrenton, which i 20 miles farther north. I am sure my daughter and I will have to stop and try some of the icecream at Tillamook. Used to love to stop there and watch them made the cheese, that is not really possible now. Donna
Welcocme from Arizona, raven-locks.
The beaches near Tillamook sound so wonderful right now... I too am living on high desert plateau in the middle of a drought that's even beginning to kill the sagebrush.
I spent a wonderful summer along the coast of Oregon and remember I think it was Cape Lookout, we got to watch a whale playing with a crab boat.... well whale was playing in among the crab pot floats and crab boat (smaller than whale) was keeping out of its way. hee hee hee .... oops, spot a whale for me willya
Meanwhile, back at the ranch....
Welcome to Dave's, Raven- happy posting. ~Blooms
Thanks all for your warm welcome!!!
Ruth, I came from a little town called Selah, home of the TreeTop juice, pretty small and definitely farming community, which was perfect for us, nice and laid back, but I just couldn't take another summer or another winter there without going off the deep end, so we moved as soon as my husband found a job, thank goodness!!! They have been getting temps in the low hundreds in Selah for most of the summer!!!! I would have melted!! Maybe when you come down here to my neck of the woods we could meet! I've never had the pleasure of meeting a fellow plant lover that I have met through the forums, that would be so fun!!!
Blooms, we go to Cape Lookout all the time!!! It's gorgeous!! That's where the kids want to learn how to surf, haven't seen a whale there yet though! Just up the road from Cape Lookout is a little beach called Happy Camp, and one of the first times we went there, the kids jumped in the water and started playing, and all of a sudden, we noticed that there was something out there with them about 20' feet away! Evidently, that beach is one of the favorites of the Sea Lions and one of them was out there with them, and I would almost swear that it was trying to get them to come out farther to play with him~I'm hoping anyway, I think I would be entirely too nervous if I found out that Sea Lions were horrible beasts that want to hurt you, they're HUGE!!~anyway, he stayed about 20' from them the entire time just waiting and watching, until someone came up the beach with a dog, and then he kind of came up out of the water and made a huge belly flop back into the surf and we never saw him again. The kids absolutely loved that day and now they have a great story to tell everyone! Sorry Blooms, I'm sending you ocean breezes!!
Well thanks again to everyone with the warm welcome, I know I'm going to love it here at Dave's!!!

Welcome to Dave's from an ex-Oregonian! I grew up in Tillamook, moved to Portland and then down here about 25 years ago. When I was a kid in Tillamook our favorite saying about it was, "Land of cheese, trees and mud up to your knees!" What do y'all think makes it so green there? Lots of rain!! It is beautiful, even though sometimes there isn't enough sun for me. Raven: You know that large Georgia mansion on First Street, just east of the courthouse? My dad and grandfather built the apartment building just across the street from it. We lived there when I was 5-6 years old. One of our local doctors and his wife and 7 children lived in the mansion, and we played over there a lot.
I'm glad you're enjoying your new home town!
