Can someone help me with Kodak Easyshare/computer clash

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Hoping someone can help me figure out what I can do to fix this problem:
Computer was in the shop for a week after a power surge fried some of the innards - motherboard & memory. At the time of the surge I had my Kodak Easyshare camera plugged in to the USB port via the cable, but the camera was not "on". Camera appears to work fine, takes pictures and camera memory is intact, flash works etc. But now when I plug in the USB cable & turn on the camera, I don't get the message "retrieving device contents" like I used to. In fact, nothing happens. My Kodak albums were all intact upon the computer's return, but after experiencing the problem I reloaded the EasyShare startup disc and ran thru the "repair Kodak files" links. Also went to Control Panel and found the USB port and did the "check", and it said the device was ok. So now I'm stuck - what now?

Could it be the USB port? The cable? The camera? or the software?

Any help will be appreciated! Have lots of pictures to add to PDB etc.!!
