Would this work?

I have one of those little wooden storage buildings. My hubby says he could enclose one quarter of it with insulated boards and make me an above freezing storage area for my brugs and things that I want to keep dormant but alive. Might use one of those wafer thermostats and a light bulb. So the light would go on and off. Would this work ?

Sounds pretty good to me. Wish I lived in your zone.

We do have some cold here, maybe a couple days in the teens, several in the 30's, alot in the 45-55's.

Anything here, inside breezeway or garage in winter is approx. 10 degrees warmer than outside temps, maybe you can sort of judge by that.

I think it would probably work IF your heat source has enough power to keep the temp from going below freezing during an extended cold spell. Last winter here was not especially cold by our standards - lowest temp in the upper teens - but we did have one period of 3-4 days where the high temps never got out of the 20s. Do you think your setup could handle something like that? I guess you could always go out every hour or so on really cold nights and give your brugs a big, warm hug :-)

Dont laugh Tom, I've been outside during many a spring cold snap trying to cover up plants :). My hubby has some serious insulation plans and if the area is big enough to use but not over sized I think I could keep the temp above freezing. I know this may be stupid but I wondered if coke bottles with water placed around would add any radiant heat to help hold things steady? I have one of those little pelonis heaters that I dont want to use 24/7 but could be used in a pinch, also the heat lamp we used on baby goats but that would really make the electric company happy :)

I don't know if a few coke bottles would have enough mass to make much impact on the temperature. Maybe a big ol' barrel full of water would help? This sounds like a good possible application for a solar water heater/radiator - and no, I don't know anything about how to construct such a thing!

I think I just found the perfect place to store all my plants!! I'll send them to my new friend Charlotte! LOL

Better wait and see if Charlotte has anything left alive in the Spring !!
Maybe my ship will come in some day and I can buy a greenhouse.
My luck it will be a rowboat ;)

Hey, Badseed, I live closer to you than Charlotteda, and I have alot of room in my greenhouse for "boarders". My pickup and delivery charge would probably be a little high, might be better off if you delivered them to me yourself. Wish I could help all of you out, I still have the other half of the building Spouse and I could finish off if I ever get enough business. Then my g'house would be an awesome 30x120!!!! Wouldn't that be something??
