Banana question

I grew some seeds of what was identified as abyssinian(spelling)? banana.
2 of them made it and are now 3 years old,one is about 15 foot tall and sending out pups(they are in pots that go in the GH over the winter)
I just read on a site that the abyssininan do not pup,and will not flower till 5 years in the ground and longer if in a container
Is this true?
does anyone know how I can identify it ,does anyone have one that has puped?

CC, I am keeping my Abyssinian(Ensete ventricosum)as a hardy with mulch,I have had mine in for three years and have not seen a bloom yet,maybe this year.
How many pups did you get,maybe you have one that you can try outside with mulch.
Mine is a heavy clumper,so I have had tons of pups,I try to keep it to three main stalks,so they are slowly being spread around the yard.

the problem is from what I've read
# 1 not edible
#2 what I read states it shouldn't bloom for 5 years,which makes me wonder if it is a abyssinian
#3 says it wouldn't pup till it budded.But this has had pups every year since the first summer I had it
# 4 only has the red stripe on the pups,once it gets older it looses the stripe

CC it is a bud..but its not an ensete.they are always vase shaped with incredibly long bladed leaves the lay out flat..not folded at the midrib.The leaves have very wide blades too..and DON"T pup! :-)

You could always send me all the pups..then there wouldn't be any and it could be an ensete!!LOL I would like a pup or two if you thin them sometime.

I was gonna say, it doesn't look like the ones Roz has or the one I bought. Mine has red on the underside of the leaves and on the stem and has a fat trunk. I have one that has red stripes only on the babies, but I can't remember which one it was and it's dark out there now and I ain't goin out!(gator might be out there and the neighbor saw a coral snake the other day)
