Flowering Cabbage, Ornamental Kale
Brassica oleracea var. acephala

This plant is approx. 4.5 ft. tall. Nothing special has been done to it-very unusual to me

Love the look of this one! Ours never seem to develop quite like this...maybe our season is too short. Doesn't the heat make them bolt?

I have no idea why it responded this way. But it has gotten so heavy that I had to use a stick to prop it up.It's gotten nothing special--just water and sunlight. Many neighbors have asked me what it is and are surprised when told its just a normal flowering cabbage from Home Depot.

There is a 'Walking Stick' kale, but its habit is different than this.

Weird!!!!!

It looks like topiary, doesn't it!

Save the seed! ! !

Saving the seed may be impossible, since the photo was posted in August of 2004! LOL!

Yea, I noticed after I posted....

Ornamental cabbage due tend to grow up as they go to seed, but that one is really amazing!

North Augusta, SC

Strange growth, sorta looks like a decapitated Big Bird. Then I do have a prolific imagination, this nonetheless is fascinating!
