Rosabelle question?

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I'm just curious! I have 3 different Rosabelle cuttings and all are giving me a headache. They seem to be a mite and aphid magnet. I'm guessing the damage is mites. From the beginning the leaves were leather-like and very crinkled. (Does that make sense?) I'm curious if this goes with other areas of the country or if I'm the only one. I have noticed that the cats like certain brugs.....Antique Lace being their favorite at my house! Have a wonderful day everyone!!!

Brinda, it sounds like broad mites or cyclamen mites which are especially nasty.

I have 2 Rosabelle, trying to keep them growing. You are right! Spidermites, broadmites, cyclamen, whatever. This is an indication of whether I will keep certain brugs or not. I will not constantly fight mites! I do anyway...........good thing I love these brugs.

edited for spelling tsk, tsk.

Hi Brinda, I have Rosabelle also and wondered also about the crinkled leaves. After I did some research, I found that this is a trait of Rosabelle and probably not related to insects. That is not to say that I don't have spider mites and other insects. I actually just treated for them, but I think this brug in particular has leaves which are crinkled and different from the others.

Thanks everyone! I'm treating for mites tonight, hopefully this will help her.

Rosabelle has foliage problems for me, especially now in the heat of our summers.
Brinda, KBS and Citronella are cat magnets here, every leaf has holes in it!

Cala, I don't have KBS or Citronella....but I can assure you that Antique Lace is the next best thing for cat food!!! I'm ashamed for anyone to see pics of my AL and I have buds everywhere! LOL I had buds about 3 weeks ago and those nasty critters ate holes in all the little buds. I've been spraying weekly with BT and it really is helping!

I'm not giving up on Rosabelle....I think the blooms are just beautiful! Hopefully I will see one or two before cold sets in.

My Rosabelle (living with someone else) never has problems! In fact it is the one that was weed whacked all the way around it so just the center core is attached at the very base of the plant, and defying logic it just grows and flowers on!

I like the flowers also Brinda! I hope you get some bloom!

Brinda, I need to break down and buy Bt. The cats ate holes in my buds too. AL got too dry when we were having the gator problem(I was afraid to go down there and water, so lost some brugs to lack of water) but a friend is starting me one. Are you having those little green cats taht are so hard to see?

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Yes Cala....sometimes I can find them curled up in the new leaves. But normally I can't find them at all. Last year I had the huge tomatoe horn worms and they were certainly easy to find, even though the blended in with the color of the leaves.
