Brug Seedlings

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

This first picture is Everlasting X Rosemond, it's pink, but the plant is very small, maybe 3' tall, I was surprised to see it Y and bloom so small. Oh this is a Susie seedling. Cathy

Beautiful Cathy! Is the white on the same plant?

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Last one, L'amour x Butterfly buds, this is also a Susie seedling, can't wait to see these bloom. The first large bud that was on this plant fell off tonight, we had heavy rains and wind today. But there are 8 more buds on this plant. Cathy

Yes, the white is on the same plant, the pink bloom opened yesterday but got color today. I was shocked when I saw it this evening, I though it would stay white, but turned pink.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Those are good shocks though, congrats! They look great.

She's a beauty!!

Cathy, those Everlasting seeds may contain a genetic dwarf gene, they came from the same cross as Eventide, a definite genetic dwarf. I was working with them for a while to get a patio type plant. Your seedlings look great! I'm always tickled to see how the seeds did.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

That first cross is very nice... and what a pleasant surprise to find out that it's pink!

WTG Calla....

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Congratulations you 2! Ya did great work.
Its always great to hear what the hybridizer has in mind when they plan certain crosses.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am so excited for you Cathy! I can't wait to see your other 2. This is the best part. When did you sow your seeds?

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks eveyone!! I planted the seeds I think in November or December, not real sure, I'll have to check the tag and see if I put the date on it. I think this plant would make a wonderful patio plant. I do have others of this cross that are tall, some have Y'd, and started putting on buds. I've had mites this summer, finally got some neem, ordered it online then found some at Lowes, so I'm in good shape now. I sprayed them twice 7 days apart. They are starting to look good again. We have had a rainy cool summer here, not the best conditions for growing brugs. I'll post more pictures as they bloom. Cathy

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

very nice cathy I have a few of these crosses myself, they have not bloomed yet. thanks susie, for making some lovely crosses for us to grow!!!

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Here is a picture of my Spring Peach X L'Amour seedling that finally bloomed. It was white for 2 days and now it starting to get a peach color. It has been rainy and cool, today only low 60's. So this might be darker if the weather would get warm.

I like the yellow cross. I don't know about you, but me and my brugs don't like this cool weather.

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

I don't feel like we had a summer here. It's been spring like all summer. Long range forcast it's not going to get out of the 70's. We have not had 1 day of 90 degree weather. I love hot. This has been 2 wet, cool summers in a row. Cathy

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Cathy, Very nice..I'll take both yellow ones!! :-) LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Cathy -- all your plants look great! I love the color of the pink "dwarf"!

Susie and Cathy, Well done :)

Spring Peach, isn`t that B. x 'Dr. Suess' x B. versicolor 'Peach'?

I am always looking forward to study close any seedling that has 'L`Amour' heritage in it as 'L'Amour' or Rothkirch/B. aurea traits in many crosses appears to have large influence on the shape of calyx, tube, edge and tendrils ... and in the case of 'L'Amour' also the growth habit, which is a lower tree with a spreading habit.

Also a peach/ yellow/golden color appears to be dominant in those crosses it the initial flush.

That is still a mystery, why 'L'Amour offspring most often are reported as having colors ranging in the yellow part of the colorscale, though, but as B. versicolor (part of 'Spring Peach' ) have peach as dominant color and is good as bringing the trait on to their seedlings, that is not so mysterious here 'lol'

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

They look wonderful!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

They look great, Cathy.

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi Tonny, welcome back. I guess Susie will have to give you the information about the Spring Peach, I don't know who the parents are. I have a few more of this cross that are starting to y and set buds. Can't wait to see what they look like. I have several of the Everlasting X Rosemond, nice to see to different seedlings and the colors there producing. Cathy
