I try to go out each and every day to watch and look for the Monarch's. But so far I haven't seen the 1st one!!
Where are they???
Am I thinking they should be here when its not time for them yet?
I know when I hatched out all those cats last year that it was around the beginning of September when I brought them in and started keeping a closer eye on them....but I can't remember when it was when I first started seeing them in the garden.
Anyone here in Ga, have them yet??
Surely they will come back to my gardens this year I mean I do have lots of blooms and even the host plant growing too.
Where are all my Monarch's?
Mollybee.. it has indeed been a strange and starke year for the butterflies. I think we might be seeing some Monarchs by the mid to end of August... keeping fingers crossed.
I hope you're right Mz, I guess since I had such fun with them last year that I was waiting on them to get here weeks ago. truth be known it could have very well been late in the season before I seen them last year. Eaither way I can't wait to do it all over again :)
Just spotted the first Monarch, here (in NW Arkansas) .. just the other day! We were leavin' out for town when I spotted him dippin' into the Zinnias - otherwise, I'd have surely taken a picture! As of yet, I've failed to spot him around our place here, since ... Been keeping an avid 'eye' out for any tho' ..
I'm like you guys, it does seem a bit 'late' .. even for us, here - being a little peice further North/Northwest of you guys .. there, in Georgia and Florida ...
MollyBee .. your pics and documentation of the Monarchs, and 'sharing' them .. was spectacularly wonderful !!
I had 10 on one lantana bush yesterday.
I have had NO butterflies or cats this year! So strange....I thought it was just my yard.
Thanks Magpye, trust me it was a pleasure to take those pics and share the info with ya'll.
WOW Mimidi !! Lucky you !!! Send me some!
Though you are over in Alabama...that gives me hope! I'm glad to hear that you have them, at least that means they just haven't made it this far.
So keep some and run the rest of them on over here to Ga and I'll send Weeds some on down to Fla.
Keep your fingers crossed Weeds, we are surely to get them here before too long.
I think I will go back and relook at my "Cat Log" and see exactly when it was when I started finding and bring them in the house.
I'll keep ya posted Weeds.
We have seen 2 here. I was in the yard yesterday. I also thought it was late for them. Either way I love to see them.
Finally! I'm back after a long time of not being here!
Well I finally saw my first monarch just about a week ago. But only the one.
It didn't seem to want to stay since I have very few things still in bloom here.
I've had some help cutting things down and thinning things out, so there isn't much color left for them to be attracted to now.
But now I did forget too if the butterfly bush/host plant was in bloom when the cats were on there or not?? Can anyone help me out ? The host plants I have are just about ready to bloom but are still about 2 weeks away from being in full bloom. Wondering if they will come then??
Just rattling on here.
I never got my supplly of monarchs either, one flew around for a few days and there was only the one fritilary and he wasn't here very long. I have all the same flowers and plants as ever - just no flutterbies this year. Hope that's not a new trend. ~ Blooms
Ya, I was even thinking that since I brought all the cats in and raised them last year that it might have messed them up in coming back.
Still wondering??? Did I mess them up from coming back??
Gosh I hope not. I would just feel awful if I did.
Oh no, you didn't mess them up by bringing them in. You just insured that those made it to the butterfly stage! Aren't they fun to raise? They are my favorites. They are so personable. I love how they bob up and down when you talk to close to them.
I've got a ton of milkweed for them, but no eggs. The Monarch's have been here for a few weeks tho. Not in great numbers, about 5-6 a day. Last year when they migrated, they came directly over MY house. Right across the backyard, over the fence or house and across the front yard. Not 1000's like I would like to see, but about 5-10 at a time, just a steady stream. I hope they come again!
I saw one on my butterfly weed today and have most days recently, 1-2 a day.
WOW lucky you Konkrete! I'd settle for 2 or 3! I had the most fun raising them last year, I just prayed and prayed that I would get the chance to do it all over again this year :( I'm wondering if there is still enough time for me to get a few cats? I can't remember to look in my journal as to when I had them last year and when I collected them and let them go and etc.
Can't never get my head on straight LOL
I did however see one or two monarchs the other day but they were out and away from my garden, closer to the street.
Imway2, Have you raised them before??? Be on the look out for baby cats on your milkweed. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
No I haven't yet. I keep looking for them but, nothing so far.
