How many days/months did it take to get it this far?

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Well, I bought it at Walmart in early Spring and the plant grew and bloomed white ! I complained to Walmart headquarters and the grower shipped me another guaranteed to be yellow, that was in early June so I would say that I've had the yellow about 2 months. It is a pretty color and I like the spotted pads also.

Your lily is very pretty. It looks a lot like the Chromatella I ordered from Aqua-Mart, probably for a lot less $$! I have a question - how do you keep the pretty mottling in the pads? Mine start out that way, then change to plain green.

Not doing anything special and the pond is in almost full sun. May just be the difference bewtween the Chromatella and sulphera ?

Ahh - the full sun must be it. My pond only gets about 3 hours of direct sun. Should have thought of that myself!

Dont be too sure though, I dont know if the amount of sun can change lily pad color.?

I forgot to mention that when my lily first arrived, the leaves were so mottled that they were nearly all purple. They were like a painting, so pretty! As a first-time water lily owner, I very unhappily cut off all the mature leaves when I potted the plant, and haven't seen those brilliant colors again. But you're right; it could be something else other than sunlight. It might be the soil. We don't have "soil" here in Orlando (just sand!), so I used store-bought water garden soil, which appears to be kitty litter. Maybe I'll go tuck in another fertilizer tab!

When I bought my first lilies last fall I purchased that aquatic soil too. In my opinion, what a mess. I really hated it especially when you need to repot and it stick to EVERYTHING that you dont want it too. I've been using pea gravel in bottom then some "top soil" from lowes with pond plant fert and then top it off with pea gravel. Then you can rake the pea gravel off the top and repot much easier. Everyone has their own method. I've put in a fert tab about every 2 weeks.

The juvenile foliage and early in the year lilypads are heavily marbled on Chromatella, as Summer progesses the lilypads come through a plainer green.

The Sulphurea piccy is looking a tad more like Chromatella... well, more than a tad really, lol

Sulphurea's lilybuds are rather more pointy star shaped, the mottle marks on the lilypads are tiny by comparison

Well, the reason I feel confident that my lily is sulphera is that I complained to walmart about the lilly I purchased being white. The head of the customer service dept at the company that sells the lilies to walmart called me, sent me another lily and guaranteed it to be as packaged. But we know that in plants sometimes guarantees are not ironclad :)
