What are the best AV's for indoors

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Pardon my ignorance but My wife and I would like to grow some AV's as indoor houseplants and would like to know what varieties to purchase. Thanks for any help, George aka jester.

Just check them out when you visit stores that sell AV's. Look for the healthy ones! If you want named varieties, check out Ebay. I would suggest Tommie Lou for one. It has the most beautiful variegated leaves.

I have several of the Waley World "No Namers that grow like crazy and bloom freely. They were inexpensive and healthy...course I know when they ususally get their deliveries..lol

I really love the minis and have a few I could share for the postage when it cools off enough to ship them if you want to try a couple. Or you can check eBay and get some nice ones there.I have bought tons of leaves for propagating off ebay and have been very pleased with all of them.

Just becareful...these are very addictive..they are like Potatoe chips you can't just have one..lol

Just as has already been mentioned, they all make good houseplants. All of mine are inside year round. Just pick the ones you like and go for it!

Hiya George ,
Welome to the Av forum! Glad to have you here.
No apology needed...You ask "What are the best AV's for indoors?"

African Violets do best ONLY as indoor plants...supposedly. They hate heat and cold...detest dryness and get fungus like crazy if the humidity is too high... spot like the dickens if they get cold rain on them and will kill over at hot sunshine...etc...they ARE the perfect house plant.
Makes me wonder how in the world they ever survived the rainforest tropics...lol
Anyway, like sweet Heather says "pick the ones you like and go for it.:>)"...

Walley World, Lowe's and Home Depot have them for a few bucks each, so go shopping and show us what ya'll pick.
We'd love to see them.

Is this plant give seeds ? or we can grow only from leafs ?

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Hiya gumlla... yes it will give seeds , but it is a little easier and faster from a leaf... Since you are out of our country how much trouble is it for you to get seeds or leaf shipments?

Thanks so much all of you for the help. MsCritterkeeper I would love to take you up on your offer. Please let me know how much to send and whenever the weather is right you could send then up to me. What part of the Gulf Coast do you live at. We go to Corpus Christi at least once a year and went to Galveston earlier this summer. Love the coast.
