I thought I'd say hello here in tropicals since this is where I will spend most of my time. :) I've been using Dave's PDB for about 2 years now, about a year ago I found the forums and subscribed but never did post. I resubscribed recently under a new name... a disease my DH fears is incurable ( I do believe he's right). I've learned so much lurking around here, it is incredible. Not to mention that the people here are friendly, witty and generous. Smiln32 already sent me a welcome email, see how nice you people are? :)

It's also great to be able to show my DH and son that other people really do suffer as I do, that I'm not the only one to take over every inch of available sunlight that streams into the house for the winter and turn the spare bedroom into an indoor greenhouse ! And that growing banana trees, gingers and other tropicals in the mountainous/desert of Utah really isn't all THAT crazy.

I would like to thank you all for the knowledge you've already imparted, what's yet to come and the laughs you've given on more than one occasion. Hope to see you around !

Thanks for the welcome and yes I suffer from serious zone denial, in my head I live in the bahamas. :) Unfortunately I have no beautiful pictures to share of a tropical yard in Utah. Next year ! I've always loved tropicals and had a few as houseplants but decided only last winter that I really could do it outside in all its glory in part,or mostly, thanks to people like Rootdoctor, Tropicman, Eclipse... :)
Most of my plants were very small (read cheap) when I got them and I'm still working on amending my clay soil ,getting soaker hoses in, learning the right ways to fertilize......
My bananas are only about 2-3 feet tall except the dwarf cavendish which I had as a houseplant for about a year it's getting big . EE's I'm having a heck of a time with even tho they are my favorites, maybe too much babying ? I do have a nice clump of White Butterfly Ginger no blooms yet but I have hope. My curcumas finally came up ! Aztec Sun plumeria is doing great, Kauka Wilder not so great. I could go on and on and on................ :P
I bought a 1000w hps light to grow alot of them over the winter and get a head start on next summer. My growing season is so short !
Ya'll are going to get sick of me quick if I keep this up so I'll end now.
