AGGS mixed seed pack (for new members)

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

Last year in the fall, I joined the AGGS.

As a new member welcome, they sent me a little bitty pack of seeds, from which I got about 120 tiny plants. Here they are a couple of months later. (Sorry, bad lighting.)

I lost some when I travelled for a couple of weeks in the winter, and then some more after I potted them up. I'm sure I missed some of the micro mini plants as well. Even with all that, low low winter temps (around 68F - to accommodate some orchids), and chronic underwatering (I'm terrible), I still came out with about 80 plants.

Here are a few of them. You know, I'm not a gessie expert and I'm struggling to identify the genus of some of these seedlings! lol!

Wow! Looks like you've done well with them! That must be quite the challenge to figure out what they all are. Now you have me contemplating a membership.... although my DH would freak out if I suddenly had 120 new plants. LOL!

Another one is in flower. I'm trying to get an ID - it has really fuzzy flowers, a little fuzz on the leaves, and a tuber that looks like a shallot.....

Oh, how cute! What kind of camera are you using? You have such nice closeup shots.

Well, the tentative id is Sinningia cardinalis, or a hybrid of that and another hooded type. As these are the first flowers, it's still hard to tell. I don't think the "hood" is opening as much as a cardinalis.

The camera I use is an olympus c3030 zoom. Usually, I don't bother to take closeups, which the camera is supposed to do, but is difficult without a tripod. Instead, I use the highest resolution and then crop the picture. Love digital. lol.

Yes, digital is great! Don't know how I ever managed before!

I'll have to play with mine some more to see if I can get such nice detail.

Keyring: Thank you so much for the share of your lovely plants from seed. Excellent information and photos. Gives some of the rest of us a little more courage to step out and grow from seed and try somthing new.

A white one just bloomed. I think it's a sinningia.

The really soft fuzzy leaves next to the white one is also from the seed packet.

This is another one that bloomed. The flowers are a little messed up because I tried pollinating. This is probably a kind of Smithiantha.

In the very first pic on this thread, you can see a large leaf on the right. It has grown into something that is a few feet tall - and that's after I had to cut off the tip because I knocked it over and broke it. It still hasn't bloomed.... It's probably an annual Chirita.
