Hello again everyone. I'm posting a picture of one of the lakes in the Newberry Crater in central Oregon. The endurance ride went around the rim of the crater, a truly unique place to ride! The small white dots on the lake are boats, we were about 2000 ft above the lake. You can see more pictures of this fantastic place if you do a Google search for Newberry Crater. Sit down with your cup of coffee and enjoy pictures of some really unusual stuff. Sorry I don't know how to hyperlink it.
The weather on ride day was sunny and hot, in the upper 90's. It was a challenge keeping the horse cool but we did ok and finished 5th on the 75 mile ride in about 12 and a half hours, and before dark too! Two riders rode a lot in the dark and finished with just minutes to spare. There was also a 100 mile ride with the winner finishing before midnight and the last riders comming in about 3 am. I've done that, it makes for a very long day! We all started at 5am, just after it was light enough to see the trail.
Today I hauled Patch in the trailer and rode out to check the neighbor's cows and make sure they had all gone into a new pasture. When I got up there I could see the sky was dark and heard rumbles in the distance but figured it was a quick job. Wrong! Half the cows were on the wrong side of a fence and another neighbors bull has got in with them. He stood where he wanted to stand, right in the gate, pawing and snorting, and there I was on my green horse trying to get him to move and keep the cattle close by that needed to go through the gate. The cows sensed the storm comming and wanted to be in the brush, the horse got more nervous as the storm got closer so finally I just rode back to the trailer, mission not accomplished! I suppose tomorrow I will take Breezy and the neighbor and I will get the bull out of there and maybe can get 2 fences between him and the cows.
Have a great evening everyone, count your blessings.
