Enchanted X ? is now 20" tall and in a 10" pot.A supplier said I could get 20 gal. pots for $5.00, which seems too cheap, but would be nice to have on hand. The question being, at 20" and growing nicely, would there be any advantage in going to the big pot now, or should I wait till winter dormancy ? Or should there be a more gradual incremental increase in pot sizes ?
repotting?
If the ten inch pot is full of roots, I wouldn't hesitate to move it to the big pot. If just recently potted into the ten inch, I would wait a while.
No roots visible through the drain holes, and it was put into the 10" April 20th. I'm reluctant to pull it out of the pot to check for root growth for fear of disturbing things at this time. Will keep an eye on it and wait a bit longer. Thank you.
That seems very cheap for 20 gal pots..What supplier did you say that was??? LOL
In your zone and considering the time of year, I'd move up from the 10" to a 5-gallon pot. I don't think it will have time to grow into a 20-gal pot before winter and you don't want to be dragging that weight around for no reason. Just my opinion.
That price is about right for a nursery stock pot, the cost on those is right at 2.50 to 3.00 a piece. If I were you, and I thought I was going to need them, I would jump on them, from what I hear, plastic is getting ready to take a big jump in price, one of the major suppliers bellied up and the people that bought their molds are very, very slow about producing.
Uh oh! Thanks for that heads-up Tracey!
E'ling, that's the price she said over the phone, but may be different tomorrow in person.Luckily it's only a 20 minute drive away.
Tom, I like your idea about timing.Already have fives on hand.
Lynn,Seems like when the price of oil goes up so does plastic.Having a few biggies at todays price seems like a good idea. Thanks for the comments.
