Boy is it hot-from Northern California

Palo Cedro, CA(Zone 8a)

In the orchard or barn is where you will find me when I'm not in the greenhouse messing with my botanical interests. I have a small 4-acre farm and recently moved from Anchorage, Alaska to Northern California - living on the family homestead. I am currently working in a law office, but would like to figure out how to make an income off my 4 acres so that I may 'retire' to the country fulltime. My interests are varied so I am excited to find a website where I can indulge my love for farming, animals, plants, trees, propagation and so much more. Finding Dave's Garden feels like "coming home." What a great site.

Wow! You moved from Alaska to California? I bet it does feel hot to you. Welcome to Dave's. What zone did you move from and to? You can post your new zone on your preferences page if you like.

Thank you for your welcome Cherishlife and Roadrunner. I was in Zone 4 in Alaska. As I worked and went to school full time I had very little time for gardening other than indoor. I hope to go back someday to do outdoor farming/garden. I did have friends that owned commercial farms there though. Very interesting. I will definitely check in to the chat room on Tuesday evenings! Thank you again for your interest and welcome. I really look forward to seeing all the site has to offer and getting to know some kindred spirits. I raise sheep/chickens, but have had all farm animals in the past. I am in the process of building another greenhouse and propogation will be my winter activity (other than work-ugh).

Welcome to Davesgarden. I hope you can realize your dream someday, and not have to have a "real job" anymore. Check out the Farm Life forum and show us some pictures of your critters. I used to raise sheep and a wide variety of other farm animals, now work part time for my neighbor who has about 200 ewes plus a herd of cattle. I do the night checks during lambing season, love those little lambies! How many sheep do you have, and what kind?

Palo Cedro, CA(Zone 8a)

Thank you Herbie43 and MaryE for your welcoming. I have raised baby Barbado lambs in the front room when I lived in a 100 year old cabin on Cow Creek several years ago. The herd owner was quite elderly and I was the helper. At that time I had every farm animal known to man. Now I just have two Barbado ewes (a start) and chickens for eggs. I've a start of an orchard, raised gardens and hopefully a greenhouse this fall. Maizie, my amazing herd dog (Red Aussie) is my constant companion when I am not at work. What is your passion in growing upstate New York, Herbie43? Oh, MaryE, there is a chance I might be moving to Klamath Falls, Oregon. I have relatives there. What part of Oregon is Baker City? I'll post photos of my animals from home after work!

Welcome from pakistan.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Gidgrower, Baker City is on I-84 in northeastern Oregon about half way between Pendleton Or, and the Snake River crossing into Idaho on the way to Boise. Klamath Falls would be about 9 hours away from me, I've been there, it is pretty, gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and usually dry, and a challenging place to garden.

Again, Thank you Everyone for your welcome. You are right in that my head is spinning with the information I have learned in just 10 days of being a member. And, unfortunately, I have many interests so I am on about 15 forums already and have so many more I want to get involved with. So little time, too many interests. Geez. I need to retire and do Dave's Gardening full time!!!
Thanks again.

Welcome to the fun and info at Dave's, Gidgrower.
- I even learned a bit of info about Singapore this morning and Kaleem is wonderful about sharing his life and gardens. The European forum is informative and helpful too. in fact watch out... it's addictive. ~Blooms

Welcome to northern Calif. & DG
you just happened to move to that part of Calif during one of the hot months
in Redding not to far from you, they many times a year will be the hottest town in the nation
& during the winter it will become as cold as you remember in Anchorage
but also near you is some of the finest flyfishing in Calif.
BTW: put out all the different type of bird feeders, you are in the middle of a flyway
& there are several DG people in your part of the world

enjoy DG & Calif
Dick
