There will be no stopping you now Lilypon. :-)
I see a jungle in the works...........
So do I Weeds! They are now outside and Imma checking them often........ :D one banana leaf OPENED... :D
RikerBear I really, really want to see a couple of naner(sp?) trees!! And a ginger in bloom and, and, ........ ;)
Your too funny Lily :-)
If there is a *will* there is a *way*!!! :) Notice I did not ask for nana blooms or fruit! ;)
OOH I noticed....you may be giddy, but your still sane. LOL
What fun and I just love your polar bears!
Hi Lily:
Very nice looking
plants but you have
a very short growing
season.since you are
in polor bear country!
Do you know how to
catch a polor bear???
You cut a big hole in
the ice & open a can
of peas!.Put the peas
around the ice hole!!
When the bear bends
over to take a pea
kick him in the ice
hole.
Thanks Kell :) They aren't ours but are residing here for awhile. Since Buried Treasures feels I live just a few miles from the arctic circle I really couldn't resist!
LOL...I'll keep your suggestion in mind Rebel! ;) Imma thinking I would prob be risking life and limb however.
We do have a very, very long window season tho'. Actually one couple in town is hoping to build a year round greenhouse this summer...I told them I have one or two plants they could house there.
Lilypon, I'm packing for a trip to SK. You scored girl! Those plants look great. I'm like you, just hoping for a banana tree. The one I planted last week, with Root's help, has another leaf almost out! It's growing great, and today we have the cool damp weather. :(
Rikerbear, we may have to go on a road trip together to SK, & raid Lilypon's garden!
Linda

MG,
If you go....there's a Plumeria I'd like for you to look into.
It's just talk at this time, but would like to take a trip sometime to meet Lilypon.
Lilypon, I used to live in the NWT for 3 years, and worked on the arctic coast. I've experienced a windchill of -99F. I don't ever wish to feel it again! I've got some good winter coats and boots that I won't be needing again.
Linda
Ah then you shall be prepared for here Linda! :) I worked in Inuvik for 6 winter mos. (loved the area, the Northern Lights could almost be touched.......but the darkness took it's toll even on those that were permanent residents). I think there was only one day that got that cold while I was there...but Inuvik is inland a little bit. We drove on the Mackenzie River ice road to Tuktoyuktuk two days before I left. It was such an indescribable feeling to drive on the river and then onto the Arctic Ocean. I was told the pressure ridges were caused the salt water meeting the fresh and that occassionaly vehicles had gone through. :S On the return trip the driver passed out and I was told to take only the left channels on the way back. We made in one piece, didn't need any of the emergency supplies and notified the RCMP that we were back. (Before we left the RCMP had to be told...1/2 of the trip trapper's cabins were available for emergency stops, as were some camps for the people on the oil rigs, but after that you were on your own).
This link talks about a similar trip:

BuriedTreasures I think my Plumeria is still safe for a while... :b

Just thinking of winter makes me think I really, really have to see the Southern end of this continent sometime soon!
Where did you stay when you were way, way, way up there Linda?
I was living in Yellowknife for 3 years, I was a flight nurse on a medivac team, and covered from Inuvik to Pelly Bay. This was '89-'92, then I spent a few months in Whitehorse, before moving to Fredericton NB. I'm fortunate to have been frm coast to coast to coast of this country, and through every province and territory. What a great place, but I'd go a southern trip in a minute!
Linda
