seems like the person i got it from told me was "metallic or metallica" or something like that.

I just did a search and I am thinking that is it...

Might be alocasia plumbea..its sometimes called metallica too.

can it take being fully submerged in water as in a pond? Thanks kyle.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Lisa if that is the same one you gave me last year. Mine is in the water.

Lisa,

Someone posted a while back the diff between colocasia and alocasia. One of them could go in the pond etc. Just can't remember which.

I bet someone can remember. I was having a forum conversation this morning about the alocasia plumea. I have one that's either a 'Nigra' or 'metallica'. PlanterRic suggested that the difference in the subspecies is determined by freckles on the stems. I'm not sure which is which. Mine have freckles, do yours?

colocasias do well in water..alocasias don't do so well.

my two cents I would guess a. macrorrhiza rubard, or plumbae 'nigria' - plumbae metalica has a purple underside a little translucent like a marbling... at least to me. that picture shows me that it just has purple veins.... I would hope you have an alocasia Macrorrhiza rubard they are very hard to find and pushing the $35-65.00 but more than likely you have nigria. you should ask AAdditic he would be more help. I just have mine named, but I don't know the fancy terms to go along with it....

I thought at first it was Alocasia 'Rubra' but your leaf on the back does not look shiny enough. I have to go through my old pictures as I did have this one and have it's name... I hate getting old.. the memory is going fast

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

the leaf (here)is indeed shiny, maybe the camera didn't catch it. The stem is freckled, but it is a deep burgandy with light yellow freckles.

I love it!!!!;0)

here is the stem, you can see the yellow spots on it.

WOW, that's a beauty.

Went through my old files and the one I was thinking of was colocasia esculenta "fontanesii"

Foley, AL

sorry mzMunchken, fontanesii is not upright. go to agristarts.com and look at alocasias....that should help you tell if it is common or not

Lisa, that is a beaut! Watching to see what it is.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

ely.. you are correct....

Lisa.. I see the yellow flecking on the stem.. I'm at a loss.. whatever it is.. it is beautiful!

Foley, AL

Oh I hate correcting don't look at it that way just a over site... If I didn't have name tags I would be on crack

I am wrong all the time
