Dixiechick, I am a little late on this thread. I have lots of Stevia rebaudiana. Some 30" tall, several cuttings and bunches and bunches of seed. It was difficult to start from seed but can be done with a lot of care and patience. I was beginning to believe that I was the only one in the world growing this stuff. I hope you post results and perhaps pictures. I have been experimenting with Stevia..........nada

Nada,
Do you cook with stevia?
I am wanting to learn more about it.
I heard that you can sweeten things with the leaves, is it that simple to use? I wonder if fresh is better than store bought?

eddiegirl,
Yes, you can cook with it, even bake bread. I haven't done it but have seen recipes for it. I have always preferred using the fresh green leaves as a sweetener. I also dry them and grind them up in a coffee grinder to use as an additive in tea or coffee. They usually end up being green or brown in color.

The store bought stevia is sold at any health food store and is usually refined and bleached to make it look white (resembles powdered sugar) I prefer it fresh. One leaf is usually enough to sweeten a cup of tea.

Big benefit is: No calories....no carbohydrates.......safe for diabetics

Since I have acquired an interest in Stevia, I have noticed more people getting interested in it also.

I find that interesting...
