Traders I Owe Hostas

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

Please respond via email with "You Owe Hostas" in the subject line. I am going to get these in the mail on the 24th, and I want to be sure that I have everyone taken care of. Please accept my apopologies again, and drop me a line so I can take care of getting these out to you guys. They have already had a chance to establish themselves since division, so should yield pretty, round little mounds next year.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi there,

I don't know WHAT you owe me if anything. I know I sent you a box of stuff but then you got lost in cyberspace and no one could find you. I'll take a look at my emails from you to see if there is anything that should be coming my way.

What happened to you anyways? A number of us were worried.

Daisy

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

We lost our home phone, and then my shoulder crapped out, and I kind of had a lot of family issues creep up and slap me in the face. I'm better, phone is back on, and trying to make up to those of you that were so great in the spring. Hubby has had to do most of my planting and all, and I'm just now getting back to being able to use the new tiller he bought me. First time will be tomorrow. My kids decided that they were all going to be teenage monsters and not come up for the summer, and I lost control when my shoulder went out and ended up in a sling for almost 2 months. Sorry again guys, and a really big hug coming your way daisy. I know I owe you hostas, but can't remember the rest or get to the old emails. Let me know so I can set it right.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

You have mail.........

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh! Man! I knew those roots you were pulling would WIN! At least the first time. Glad to see all is ALMOST back to normal. I know about shoulder injuries! Its funny how we gardeners think we are Superman, uh er..Wonderwoman when it comes to gardening.

Are you ever coming to visit your Dad? If you do, you need to come see me...and bring a truck!

Hugs right back!

Daisy

Wish I had known you were at tiG's here in Georgia. She only lives about 35 minutes from me. I've been there twice in the last week. Wow, she has a lot of brugs. I've even found hostas coming up where we dug them out. Guess I didn't quite win the war with the hostas in that piece of bed. The kudzu is dying and I have a "Kill zone" established. We've been going through ortho brush b gone like wildfire, and you know men, and how they mix chemicals...if the bottle says 4 oz to one gallon they're going to try to use at least 6. He only got 6 gallons out of a quart of concentrate, should have been 8, but hey, the stuff is dying, now to tackle another patch.

THe mini tiller is killing me now, I dug up probably 300 sq. ft. of space since Sunday, and still want to do one more pass through the area to make sure I at least loosened it all up 8" deep. I over planted, so have loads of stuff to move around, and of course, brugs and peanut butter trees to get in the ground. My poor little greenhouse is already 1/2 way full, and 75% of that stuff needs to be planted too. We estimate another 400-500 ft. of beds, and we'll have the greenhouse cleaned out.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Okay, the last I heard from you you were going to send your side of the trade on the 24th.
It is not the 30th.....did you get the hostas in the mail?
Just to refresh your memory, this is your end of the trade started back in April...............................
My side of the trade was the Blue Ice rose you recieved.....................................

edited to update time I have waited on this trade to complete....I thought it was early June, when in fact it has been since April.

You know, I sent you a bunch of stuff in the spring, but I honestly don't remember if you sent me the hostas or not. I do most of my trading in the spring and it's tough to keep track of it all. If you want to check through your emails and see what's what, let me know. We had a computer crash early summer and I lost all of my saved emails, so I have no way to track it now.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Y'all ought to be putting trades in the DG Trade Tracker. It never looses track.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I didn't lose track of the trade....I am still waiyting for this trader to complete her end of the trade.
Trade tracker isn;t gonna help that................................

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

rikerbear, I didn't mean you... just comments to others who cannot seem to remember their trades.

I had one stay in my Trade Tracker for almost a year before it was finished.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

eeek............. :-)

We also have a lovely new feedback system in place that you can use to rate your trading experience with various members of Dave's Garden. Just click on their user name and take a look at the menu.

While it may not help you get your end of a promised trade, it will help others avoid being taken by unreliable traders.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

No one is saying she is an unreliable trader.......yet.
There is a long history here, and not something I wish to go into now......sufice it to say I am only checking in with her.
No where near the level of posting negative feedback.............

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I've read of trades that have taken up to 2 years to complete. Seed/plant failure; too wet, too dry; life sometimes smacks us upside the head; etc. If you can try to keep the communication going and be patient, I believe 99.9% of DGers will complete their trades. darius - I also really need to start using that trade tracker! I have a few seed trades to complete because the seeds are taking a long time to dry this summer - too cool here - and dummy me has to go back thru upteen emails to find the addresses. It'd sure be easier to click on the TT and have them ready for me!

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

Well, God bless you all for being so patient. I lost patience with this one after the third or fourth "I'll ship them tomorrow morning."

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I agree with you Kooger......until such time that it becomes blatently obvious that nothing is being sent no matter how many promptings I may indeed be forced to leave a negative feedback.....but not yet.

IndaShade, I hope nothing ever happens in your life to cause you to not ship as planned....if so I hope your tradey is a bit more patient

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

She never said she could not ship as planned. She just kept telling me that she would ship "tomorrow." There was never any word in any of her e-mails about any problems in her life, or sickness, or that the plants needed rooting or whatever..... nothing.. nada. Had a plausible explaination for non-shipment been given, I definitely would have been a little more patient.

Edit: In fact in checking over her e-mails, she said on the 12th of August that she had paid postage: "$60 this week, $32 last week, but I'm getting some of that back for plants I sent on postage..." So there was obviously nothing wrong with her that week, and my trade was obviously not among those that she sent.

Wasn't trying to slam you IndaShade. Hope you didn't take it that way. We're all human and act/react differently to difficult situations. I do have a lot of patience - growing up in a large family perhaps helped to learn patience. :) Treat others the way you would like to be treated is always a helpful thing to remember.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks for reminding me about that Darius.

No - I've looked through my emails through Dave's and I don't think we ever completed any arrangements. I saw where I sent you a message about getting some hostas, but I don't think anything ever came of it, so ignore my earlier post. Sorry for the confusion.

You don't owe me any hostas, but in trade for the Epi cuttings and purple cone flowers you were going to send me, Cuban oregano, lipstick plant and a lois Woodhull. Have been sick myself, so I didn't e-mail about it . LMK when shipped. Thanks, Lou

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I sent Spacecowgirl some plants and the only thing I asked for in return was the postage I paid.
So On the 27 of August, I recived this e-mail from Spacecowgirl....

"Thanks so much for the new babies, and brug cuttings to boot, how did you
know? Thanks so much. The cannas are going into the ground today, and
postage going out as well. Mom is coming up Saturday and taking a few of
everything not tied down back to Texas, so have to put together a care
package for her and her church buddies. She's brining my daughter up to live
with me."

I have not recived anything from her and I have e-mailed her twice to see if there was a problem.

and then on 9/5/04 I recived this e-mail:

Sorry Dee! It's been awful around here, and it might not have made it out the door. I had to move my daughter up here in a rush, and have spent the last week trying to get her in schol up here. I'll do that today. Please excuse...

And as of today 09/16/04 I have recived nothing from her and no further communication.

....I know she was going through some bad times and I am trying to be understanding, but I would like to have some kind of communication in the meantime.
I will wait a fair amount of time (and really I think I have already) before I post feed back one way or the other..........I really don't want to leave anything negative an explantation would due for now instead of a "I'll sent it today" and it never comes.....I am a reasonable person and I want her to be toooo....

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I have recieved a couple different emails from her over the past few weeks....each stating she had 'family' stuff to do (moving her daughter in from Texas was the reason used on a couple different emails dated two weeks apart....who knew Texas was so far away)
I have basically just given up on ever recieving her end of the trade or any reimbursment of postage monies spent.
Truly hate being made to feel leary of other trades......think I'll just stick to plant sales and mail order companies for the time being.
Good luck to you Dee

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Sheryl,

You are at another forum also getting ready for a big swap in Georgia on the October 2. You just posted at that site yesterday so I know you are just ignoring our emails. Hmmm... Where is my postage for the cannas I mailed on August 24th? Last I heard you were sending it on Sept. 9th. You already have to negative feed backs. Shall I leave another?

BTW. Many of the people here know the people at the other site you just joined on August 18th 2004. The word gets out when you don't complete trades. What is really funny to me is that you only have a crisis when you have to send your end of the trade...how does that work? This happened to me once before with you back in April of this year...when will I ever learn???? I'm done with spacecowgirl.

Daisy

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Daisy, what other site are you speaking of? I would be curious to see what she is up to over there myself.

Marc

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

In July, Spacecowgirl agreed to two trades with me. I have e-mailed and gotten no reply and no plants yet. I guess, I too, will give up on receiving them. Lou

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I do honestly understand that there are things in life FAR more important than plants and seed trades.
I would hate for anyone to think me so shallow as to not understand that life does happen.....I just wish she had been a bit more forthcoming with communications regarding promises and commitments.
Lord knows I've fallen short on these things myself in the past, but I believe I have alwasy tried to keep envolved parties updated.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

rikerbear,

She's at BGI under the same name. She just posted yesterday asking for more plants from people going to the Georgia fall swap.

Something just isn't right.

Daisy

What or where is BGI please someone email me the information..

I don't think I will get the hosta she owes me from April so I'm not going to even ask about it again.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I really appreciate the fact that we can Discuss traders like spacecowgirl here, there's nothing hateful going on here, but folks trying to get to the bottom of their trade, seems like their all long over due, I too, would have given up on her long ago, and posted negative feedback about her. It gives us folks who haven't got pending trades with her a chance to jot her name down not to trade with her. I appreciate Dave your letting us do this, It makes folks aware , they can't do this here. Now what is this other trading site yall are talking about, I know it's not the GW. ?

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

well, duh, LOL didn't even notice it,

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

LOL Kathy! I frequently go blind. Especially when it's RIGHT in front of my face!!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I, too, appreciate learning who to avoid. I'm very new at seed saving / trading and don't really have much of an inventory. I would hate to send what little I have to someone who is just going to trade it away anyway, and also isn't going to hold up their end of the trade. So many of you are SO generous - pretty much leaves me dumb-founded! So happy to have joined DG!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

And we're happy you joined too, Sequee! And you absolutely right - - I have been on the receiving end of these extremely generous gardeners so it is appalling to see anyone taken advantage of. On the upside, there are so few 'bad apples' that chances of running in to one are small!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Anyone hear anything from SpaceCowGirl lately? Last email I got from her said she was busy with 'family'. She never did actually say she'd be sending anything in the last email, so maybe I should truly just write this one off.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I received an e-mail sayings she was shipping my trade on the 18th. Thanks spacecowgirl for getting these out before our weather gets any cooler. Nights are already in the 40's so who knows with this crazy weather when it will get too cold to ship. Lou
