Can you transplant large banana trees?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

My Parents are moving out to the family farm and they are selling their "in town" house. My Mother really wants to move some of her 10-12' banana trees out to the farm with her. We have two stock tanks that I think they would be happy to live by but would they survive being dug up and transplanted?

It's doubtful they would survive, but dig up some of the roots and plant those. They'll be sprouting trees in no time.

I gave about 8 banana trees to friends and family a while back and from what I have heard, all of them survived. We cut the tops back, and took as much of the root system as we could.

I stick mine in the ground ,well,,every year but this year, and then dig it and pot it up in the fall, its 15 foot tall and it does fine getting dug up.....
