I'd really like to plant these but my mom only wants evergreens there, so I was wondering if lavender is evergreen in zone 7? I mean the big English one.
Is lavender evergreen?
Yes or rather it's evergrey :)
Thanks for asking this question 'M' would you know if the 'English', 'Lady' or 'Spanish' lavender is hardy enough to 'overwinter' here, in Upstate NY, Z5a?
I just started them this Spring. (winter started them in January in the house).
Some of them can take up to 146 days to germinate!
I really don't want to lose these guys, they smell so heavenly.
NatureWalker,
English lavender overwinters here (zone 5). If we mulched at all I'm sure we wouldn't have had to replace some lost this past winter. So, I recommend mulching your lavender and it should do good for you.
My favoriter herb just happens to be lavender and English lavender is a great choice CaptMicha.
Oh, English lavender is "evergrey" here too. ;~)
TC...
Ok thanks for the info, TC.
I planted them into 8 gallon 'paper trash cans,' silver tulip shaped (with holes drilled into the bottom) in the begining, in case I had to move them inside for the winter. Looks like I can leave them on the enclosed back porch then. It still gets pretty chilly there, as there's no heat out in that part of the house and we share it with the neighbors upstairs.
