Finally. My blue butterfly bush has buds on it. It is over 7 feet tall. I was beginning to wonder. In a few more days, I should have flowers.
Clerodendrum ugandense finally budding
Wow, that's a monster plant Lisa.
Mine started to do that and I started pinching. Now I have a nice bush with a lot of buds and blooms. Since it was in a pot, I was having a hard time finding a place that I could let it get so tall. This plant is a favorite of mine. I'm hoping it will hold over the winter again for me. It sure looks nice and tropical at your house.
Lisa,
I am in Mississippi, 10 miles north of I-10, Zone 8B. Do you think mine would live in the ground?? Do you have yours in a protected place, which direction
south??
Sorry, you missed our City Park Sale. Jim said y'all had a nice Swap. He loved all the plants he got from you. Jim is a very nice person, we have traded for
many years & finally got to meet
at the Fl. Round-up.

Honeybee, he speaks highly of you. I am in the same zone as you. Mine is not in a protected area. It died down to the ground over the winter but now is taller than ever and should bloom any day. I guess next year I will try pinching it.
Lisa,
Thanks. I may get brave this coming spring & put it in the ground.

I'm jealous. I wish I could put a lot of things in the ground instead of re-potting and holding them over in the garage or basement. It makes a lot of extra work.
I have a question for those that grow theirs in a pot...how large a pot is yours in?
Rylaff yours scares me! ;) I know I'll be trimming mine a bit now.
Lilypon, in TN(zone7) I grew mine in a 5 gallon pot and it did good. I would prune it back when I brought it in and in spring, it would take off again. Once, it got too cold and died back to the pot. I thought it was a goner, but it came out of it.
Thank you!! I am so grateful that you lived in a lower zone and can help me with my beautiful new friend. :D It's good to know it can come back from the roots (in case we have a NASTY surprise before the mass haul in).
HoniBee, I have one growing in a pot, and last year, it did nothing, so I left it outside in the pot, and this year, it came back and was doing really good til I spilled miracle grow all over it. It is trying to come back, but I pretty much burned it up.
Oh, and is this in the same family as the Tibouchina (misspelled), cause if it is, mine comes back in the ground.
I think I killed my tibouchina. I dug what was left of it up and put it in a pot. Roz, do you have yours in sun or shade? Does it like to be moist?(the tibouchina, that is)
My Tib. takes dappled shade..and seems to like it better! Clero. Ugandense is a beautiful tropical...all those blue butterfly-looking blooms....Elaine
