Lilypon, it's not a plumeria but

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

It's at least tropical. I got a bird of paradise and a banana today. (my partner is away, I got to play at the nursery) The banana is a "Sumatrana Zebrina - red leaf banana, Strong upright red streaked leaves to 7 M tall. Highly ornamental, Protect from winter Zone 9"

Boy do I ever need a greenhouse now! And yes, I am still after those plumerias. I've talked to all the nurseries on the lower island here, and not one of them has either gingers, or plumeria.

Now I need to read up on who to take care of these. Is it different from brugs?? ;)

and the bird of paradise, I should've looked at what was in the photo before I took. Ignore the chairs, wilting brug cutting and whatever else is in the background.

Hey LInda. Where were you shopping????
I had an e-mail from Heather(who I was telling you about today). She was at Gardenworks on Blenkinsop today and they had Brugmansia "Snowbank" for 19.99 in a gallon size. They also had bigger pots with tons of blooms for 39.99. I think I'd better stay away!!! :-)

I gave Heather your name and number, and she may get in touch with you. I suggested the 3 of us should have coffee sometime!
Enjoyed your visit today!

Enjoyed your visit too Glenda, nice place you have. I was out at Elk Lake nursery on the way home. Got the banana for $13 and the B of P for $21.

I was at garden works last week, and got 2 of the snowbanks. They look good.

Linda
Check out the tropical forum, under the Advice needed please for the step by step repotting of the nana from Rootdoctor.

Editted to say, that Elk lake also had a triple Dat. 1/4 the size of yours Glenda, and the colour was very different from yours, not near as green.

Glenda, everytime I have visited the island, I must have spent easily $100 or more at that wonderful corner garden centre....................do they still have some very unusual plant material? Elaine

Roselaine:

It's so easy to spend $100.00 isn't it?? Are you meaning Garden Works, or the Elk Lake nursery?? I haven't been to either one for awhile, but the last time I was at Gardenworks on Blenkinsop, yes they had some neat stuff!!
I guess I will have to check it out again!
So when are you coming over again to spend $100?? :>)

Linda:

The datura bloom has made amazing strides since you were here yesterday. It is pushed out about 2 inches, and soon will be ready to unfurl! Doesn't look yellow yet though!

Wow Glenda, that's a big growth spurt. You sure have the spot for it.

How is the CDW cutting? Does it look like it's going to make it? The brug cutting you gave me, last evening it looked dead. This afternoon, it looks like it might, just might, make it. Here's hoping it does.

LInda, the cutting looks great. I took off the biggest leaves, and pulled the full bloom and the tiny bloom. I left it out on the patio overnight, sprayed it for mites, and this morning the levaes were standing straight up. So far so good!!!!!
Hope your cutting does okay. Let me know. I can always do another one.

What color is your BOP???

Elaine, you will have to let us know when you come, and we can try and do coffee!!!
Bring your $$$$$$$$ for new plants!!

Linda, I had to stake and tie up the datura today. I looked, and it was flopping over. Not sure why. Anyway, looks better now and that flower just keeps springing forth!!!

It didn't have a name or what colour it was. I assumed it was a generic orange. Isn't that the most common? I saw a huge white the last time we were in Hawai'i, check here: http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=showMyPhoto&albumID=108211217&photoID=108215013&security=EJxbHy

I'm just hoping it grows.

It won't let me in. :(

I had to ask because I know Liz is growing a white one. Really amazing to see that the white one's grow to the size of a small palm tree! :O

OK, try www.webshots.com, and look under comunity, and a specific user, lindawre, that's me. try that.

lilyon, you have mail.

I have lots of different gingers, let me know what you are looking for.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Glenda.........that's a great invitation!.thanks............Jeannie, where's Liz these days???????? Elaine

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I got through to your pictures last night Linda and enjoyed looking at them immensely. Beautiful scenery AND plants!! I recognized one of unnamed ones...it might be a Protea but I'm pretty sure it's a type of ginger. I've seen it before and I know I emailed Weeds a picture of it but now, of course, I can't locate it. :(

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Thanks Lilypon, I didn't think at the time it was a ginger, but who knows, at that time I wasn't as smart as I am now about plants. Glad you enjoyed looking at them, it sure was a good, fun, relaxing trip. Not near long enough though.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

How long were you there?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

I have been Kauii (sp) once for 2 weeks, and it was lovely, Lush, fragrant, great beaches, and numerous subclimates.

I've been to the big island of Hawaii twice now, one time for a month, with my M&D and sister. It was the first time we were ona trip together for 25 years. We won't be doing another "family" vacation again, ever, by choice. But the month long time on the big island was glorious. I actually had time to relax, and we saw lots of the island. The next we went, was just the 2 of us, for only a week, but it was a true holiday. We stayed in the kona-kiluae area, and our biggest worries, were with beach we were going to go to for the morning, then in the afternoon, the same choices or the pool. That trip needed to be a month long.

I have only stayed in Honolulu long enough to change flights. The most I've stayed there is 2 nights. I'm more of a relaxed, slow pace, not big city kind of girl, and even more so on holidays.

Are you thinking of going to Hawaii?

From Sk, I'm not sure where you'd get better deals to Hawaii or the Caribbean. When I lived in New Brunswick, it was cheaper to go the Caribbean the Hawaii. Here, living on the west coast, it's the other way around.

Not any time soon but I love to hear about other people's experiences and make note of their suggestions!
