Watermelon 'Yellow Belly Black Diamond' (Citrullus lanatus)

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Wow Farmer Dill, you have been busy in the database! I love watermelon, and couldn't help but notice this. I have been taking pictures faithfully (including my cucumbers), but had not taken any of my watermelon yet, they are still small. But you have inspired me, so I will be taking some first thing in the morning. That should finish of my roll, so I can get the photos up in a week or so.

Yellow watermelon is my favorite, such a sweet taste, and no red mess. I have never had this variety, it is hard to get Black Diamond around here, maybe they don't grow well in the Panhandle???
Have a great full moon weekend!

This one has red flesh, but there is a yellow fleshed Black Diamond. Dark skinned melons are prone to sunburn, which is one of the reasons Black Diamond types have lost popularity in the deep/middle south.

Well, I wonder if you could tell me why it is nicknamed Yellow Belly, I guess it refers to the underside rather than the inside LOL.
So, sounds like I could grow black diamond between my rows of corn??? May give it a try next year. When a truck from Kansas comes down with BDs, everyone snatches them up fast.

Yes; all green melons turn yellow on the underside when ripe, but this one is really pronounced almost a deep gold.

I don't suppose yours are isolated where you can save seed? If not, I will just have to put this on my want list for next year. Just sounds DEEE-LEE-SEE-OSO
Please see punkin pickin for my latest squash question =-)

Willhite in Poolville Texas is my major seed supplier. Don't how far you are away, but they do have excellent melon seeds and a wide array of cultivars.
