Attracting frogs

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Any ideas on how to attract frogs to ones pond?
I know there are frogs in my area....I hear them on our nightly walks of the dogs. None seem to have found our ponds yet....or if they have they didn't like them enough to move in.

Catch some tadpoles. :)

Hmmmm...will tadpoles stay in the pond once they turn to frongs? I had always heard they would 'try' to return to their pond or origon (home) as it were.

I know some water gardening companies sell tadpoles. There is, of course, no guarantee but at least you could watch their transformation and maybe some would stay.

I spent the last 8 hours counting and I have 1, 372 tadpoles in my pond and numerous others in water around the yard!

Supposedly frogs go to the same place every year to breed. Maybe if you buy some tads (which I just read take two years to mature) they will return for years and years.

LOL @ Weeds!!

We have marshy areas nearby, but the frogs don't come on their own to our pond. Every year I buy about six tadpoles (some kinds take one year and some two years to mature). The young frogs usually stay through the winter, but when the pond frogs hear the marsh frogs in the spring, some of them go looking for love. I currently have one big guy left from last year's crop; there were three prior to the last big rainstorm, which is when they seem to travel. I also wonder if some don't get eaten. They often sun themselves on the pond edges, easy targets for fast-swooping birds. Our local water garden supplier sells the large bullfrog tads. It's fun to watch the transformation, whether they stay or not.

So Weeds, 372 frogs equals how many Princes? :)

None at my house.....how about yours?

LOL.....ummm no comment :-)

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

They would definitely find the pond one night or other. Just you wait and see. If you have no patience, follow Lilypon's suggestion seriously! And keep a count and follow weeds!

Come India or Pakistan , you will have alot of tedpoles and frogs .Mosqitoes attract frogs , try to purchase few mosqitoes...........Hope after that you will soon have frogs in your pond.

Mmm, you could make some "toad abodes" and make a shallow area mud puddle for them to find first...it will feed butterflies and dragonsflies, too. I could send you a few thousand noisy TEXAS size rascals from my pond!Of course they might eat your dog.lol Just kidding ... try the toad abodes and a shallow muddle puddle in some bushes with some decaying tree branches.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.....I will try a few things.
Gumlla we have plenty of mosquitos, so don't think I'll be buying any extras of those :-)

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

riker, I've purchased the frog tadpoles in the years past and they don't stay. Toads just love my pond/house but not frogs. They grow nicely then suddenly disappear. I've read that girl frogs stay, boys leave looking for the girls. Guess I always have boys. LOL

Good luck!!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

This is my first year with any sort of pond but usualy I have people bring me the wild tree frogs around here so never have a short supply. They never stay after summer but next year maybe Ill be lucky enough to get some to come back.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Gonna head to one of the many lakes around here this weekend and see if I can't nab a few tadpoles........maybe just maybe a few will stay and grow up for me.
Thanks again for all your advice and suggestions everyone.
