harvesting lotus seeds

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Has anyone harvested lotus seeds. My seed pods are drying but the seeds are not hard. They are brown but you can squish them if you try. Are they supposed to be rock hard?

Charlotte, the seeds will be plump and very hard when ready.

so I should leave them in the pod, even if they fall out when you tip it upside down, and they will firm up?

Charlotte, , I just keep a check on the pods to collect the seeds before they drop in the pond. Some are fertile, some not. The mature/fertile seeds are plump and as hard as canna seeds. Only 2 were fertile in this pod.

You're very welcome Charlotte. I don't have the foggiest idea why I got so many infertile seeds. Maybe someone will come along with an answer for us.
