My new beds, under construction

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

We got crazy and bought 6 more acres just up the mountain from our property (buffer zone AND old age insurance). We are putting in roads and planting areas...and will soon (?) have a park cum new land. The lava is just 3"-4" under the soil (?)...so everything has to be ripped to plant. This is the first stage.

I envy backyards, side yards...

You see...those "tropical paradises" have a lot of work behind them...not to mention the weed and grass control...

Would I live anywhere else. NO. This is ideal. Keeps us out of the bars (too far to drive over bad roads) and healthy (spending a fortune in Aleve).

We all have things to contend with when we plant...but LAVA!
LOL. I'm sure it will be beautiful and worth all the work.

RD - many many many tents!

Watching a D-9 gobble up bush is awesome! We have taken photos and will be making an album of the progress!

Eclipse...we live between Keaau and Pahoa on the E. side of the Big Island...know it? Contrary to rumor...this IS paradise! Average temp 76deg., average rainfall, 150" (at our house...it changes 1 miles down the mountain) per year...

Stay tuned... I just found a friend with Bismarkia nobilis to sell...

;o)

Aloha, I myself have never been to Hawaii.I be a po haole wit no chaans to git to da ilands. LOL Would be nice to visit sometime..yu need a gardener??? ;-) I have a good friend living on Oahu..in Honolulu. She don't need no gardner either.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

You be one kine ono gardner? Come...we talk story en' dig some den we talk mo' story!

Actually, this project is SOOooooo Hawaiian. Driver is 80 years old...has 4 D-9s. When he comes on the job along some his wife (jeannettte), 3 grandsons and someone else who drives the beast. We never know when they are coming...when they have fuel, when they bring the bolt that broke yesterday....an adventure.

Patricia - the thought of the planting space exhausts me. You cannot imagine how fast the weeds grow here..."Round up is my friend"...I am buying a 50 gal. spray trailor...no way am I packing around 3 gals on my back...HA! A fused spinal col. is not my idea of the way to walk around!!! 12 acres and I am crying UNCLE!
