I never saw a purple.... hummingbird before... Know his name? He's positively the most beautiful hummer I've ever seen.

Edited to add that I just went back and reviewed all your hummer threads on this page. You take amazing shots of these dashing little birds. Are they right outside your window or do you have something that serves as a 'blind'?

Did you see this one?

That is a gorgeous hummer. What kind of flowers are those in the first picture?

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

This is new. These were all from today. The hard part is that I don't have enough light to get a higher sutter speed, they need 1/500 to 1/1000 to stop the wings. I have to shoot these at 1/60. So I have to get creative and catch them when they stop in the air. It isn't for long, but you take a shot, sometimes you get them!

You catch them when they STOP !!! Wow. I loved the one with the transparent wins too. Have you found a name for the purple one or was it the light? It looks like he's really those colors. Just like the green guy.
I think that a Lonicera - I asked that too - somewhere else. they just seem to love that honeysuckle. Do you have a feeder too?

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

They go up to it(feeder), but they like the two honeysuckles the best. Dropmore Scarlet (Lonicera brownii) and Goldflame (L. heckrotii). I watch for my carpenter bee, when it arrives, so do the hummers.

I am envious of you all with your regular humming-bird visitors. I did get to see a few during the year we lived in Kelowna in Canada, the Ruby-throated did visit our garden there, but I never managed a photo. The best picture I got does not come within a mile of the beautiful close-ups I have been seeing on this forum, but here it is anyway! This is the little Calliope Hummingbird, which was the less common of the two species in the area of British Columbia where we stayed.

Hey! You got a picture. I never shot hummers untill this week so I should be able to get some more pictures soon enough . I didn't catch on to their little quirks at first. It has just been the last couple of days that I can capture the movements at the low speed I have to shoot at.

monterey,
Was that the real color of the hummer or reflections? If so please tell us what kind it is. Only have rubys in MI.

monterey, great shots of the hummers. Here we have Caliope, Black Chinned and Roufus. In my shot of the Feeder Frenzy I think there are just Black Chinned an Caliope, may be some immature Roufus. Was almost dark when i was taking the photo. They just go wild from 8:00 to dark and very early in the morning. Donna
