Cup and Saucer Vine

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

It's just the regular purple, not alba but I keep getting all these strange streaked flowers off of it instead of just purple.

I trained it to climb up around the bird bath with scotch tape, it's really pretty but I can't empty the water now to clean it. Oh wellllll

At least you have bloom. The only time I grew one, it climbed okay, but wouldn't bloom. I went out one day to check it and it just up and died. Have no idea what happened, so now I stick to passiflora and morning glories.

You weren't feeding it, were you? I know that they don't flower well if you do that. It may also burn the roots.

Mine is in mostly shade that gets a couple of hours of sun. I also water it alot and it gets a little extra when the bird bath overflows.

I'll bet you just told me what was wrong. I had it in full sun. Having no knowledge of this plant when I grew it, I just stuck it where there was a support for it to grow up. I may try again if it is more shade that it needs. I didn't fertilize it at all. Thanks a bunch. I'll get brave next spring.

I too have about 4 plants in full sun, and was wondering why they weren't doing anything.

Maybe I'll give them another try next year, they are beautiful.

Igrew one on an east facing wall with minimal morning light.Grew like gangbusters 15ft. Next year I fed it once--and it died, just like morning glory

I have just learned that you shouldn't fertilize these. I have a morning glory in a basket and it grew and grew , but no blooms. I have been trying to be "good" and feed all my plants. Now I learn, I shouldn't fertilize my cup and saucer. What else, should I NOT fertilize. I thought all plants need fertilzer. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Lou

Usually you're not supossed to fertilize flowering plants (I guess during flowering seasons) because the foliage will grow and not put out flowers. However, they make fertilizer that's supossed to encourage blooming. I just learn which of my plants like to be fed by trial and error.

Thanks, Maybe I'm doing good after all. I used "Bloom Builder" on them so maybe they will still bloom. Lou
