Charlotte, I've got cuttings. Would you be interested in that?

They grow wild here. I would be happy to dig and send as many as you want. I like irises and daylilies, so a trade could work, though big bushes would be costly to ship.

Pins2006-thanks for your generous offer. I would rather have one with roots but if I cant get one cuttings would work.
PlanterRik- I didnt realize they were a native bush. I'm talking about the Japanese Beauty Berry that has the bright purple berries in the fall. Is that right? I only need a small one.

Charlotte -- I've never heard of a Japanese Beauty Berry, but American Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) has clusters of small round lavender berries spaced on the branches in the fall. It's a historic native shrub. Jefferson collected it and sent it to gardening friends around the world beginning in 1771. There was an article about it in the Twinleaf catalog (that's the nursery at Monticello). It might be on the Monticello site or at Twinleaf.org.

thank you PlanterRik, I may need to do a little more research to make sure I know what I want :) I saw this shrub at a botancial garden in our area last fall. I was told it was beauty berry.

Charlotteda--There are different types of Beauty Berry out there. When I first acquired my native Beauty Berry (Callicarpa americana), I was really hunting for a bush called Beauty Bush (Kolkwitzia amabilis) that sometimes gets confused with Beauty Berry. That is when I found out there were several types Beauty Berry shrubs like Callicarpa shikokiana and Callicarpa japonica and others. Here is 3 links to the types I mentioned:

I hope you can find the one you want. They all are quite beautiful shrubs.

CountryBumkins -- That's interesting. So there is a Japanese beautyberry. Have you grown it? Can you compare its performance with native beautyberry?

Incidentally, there's a form of American beautyberry that has white berries. It can provide a nice contrast in fall color when planted with the purple.

Charlotte -- Let me know what you decide.
