Hard to tell, but there are ten seedlings on the table. All started at the same time, but with very different germination.

It amazes me how they grow at different rates depending on the hybrid.

Hi, I started my seeds from Calas Tropicals the end of April, no y's yet, but I am hoping. These are my first brugs (21!:)
I did an experiment with planting 5 in 10 gal. containers (in Miracle Grow potting soil) about 6 weeks before planting the rest (1 gal) directly in the ground. The ones in MG are about 4 feet tall, ones in ground maybe 2'. I guess the name MG speaks for itself!

Now you've got me wondering if I should try growing some seedlings next year. How long does it usually take for a plant to reach blooming size? I have grow-lights so I could start seedlings inside but I'd have to time it so they don't get more than 6" tall before I can move them outside in April. How long does it usually take from planting indoors to the 6" seedling stage? What is the usual winner:dud ratio? I'd have to be rather aggressive about culling since I have a small yard and no greenhouse. Is it reasonable to assume if a brug has nondescript pale flowers its first year that it's not going to be very good and the potential "keepers" will show at least some color or good form to indicate they should be carried over for a 2nd year?
