Well, shoot girl, quick take out the anthers. Just the top pollen part. I use a curved hemostat but you can use long tweezers. I take out a 6 inch square of wax paper folded in half then in half again. Plop the anthers in there. Make sure you do not let any wind take them. Then bring in and let dry for a day. Then I fold up the wax paper in half with the anthers in the center, and refold it in thirds. Then fold over the top, seal with masking tape.

I label it on the masking tape as to kind, date of harvest and freezer date. If you are going to use in the next few days, put in refrigerator. If not cover pollen packet with silver foil. Put in freezer bag and put in freezer.

I need to run over to Susie's and get a quick lesson on plant fertility! LOL I don't even know what an anther is! *Blushing*

Nice pictures Brinda. Once you start pollinating, you will have even more fun growing them.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Woooohooooo....I'm learning so much! This should be the sexology forum! LOL Thanks for the lessons you guys!

Brugie, you know.....I swore that I wouldn't get too obsessed with something now! I have so much on my plate with this new business, but I just can't help myself!!! I'm so into brugs and anything tropical! And day by day, DH is getting to like them more & more. At least now he remembers the name 'brugmansia' and has learned the difference between cannas, bananas, daturas, castors and lisianthus. I think he might actually be on the right track! And he even doesn't mind watering when I don't have the time!

Lisianthus, last year!

Brinda, those are so pretty. I can't grow them. They come home with me from the nursery with blooms on them and then I never see another one. I give up. Sure glad your DH is getting into brugs/gardening some. Maybe one day he will get out there and pull the right weeds too.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Beautiful!!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Shirley, I have the same problem with the lisianthus. LOL I also gave up on them.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

She is a beauty!!!

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Well darn Shirley & Ada....Lisianthus is such an easy annual here. All it needs or wants is hot sun and water. I even get lucky some years and it will winter-over. I have had many different kinds of lizzy but this one is 10" tall and called Forver Blue, and definately my favorite!

Thanks Waterloolily....and my batteries ran down on my camera! DANG!!! I wanted more pics tonight! LOL

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I can't keep them alive either. I don't think we're hot enough. Won't tell you how many years I've bought it. About the same number of years as caladium. Days are warm enough, nights cool. I'll just enjoy it at the grocery store.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

Liz, I think it takes more than hot sun and water. We've got plenty of both here and lisianthus doesn't thrive. I think it's too humid or the soil is wrong... must be one of those plants that's very sensitive to local conditions.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Now that you are embarking on a new journey into Brugmania, hybridizing....here is a pic that I copied off Dave's when I first became a member. I do not know who to give credit to. It is a great reference. Learn your parts soon Brinda, so you do not cut out the stamen when you remove the anthers!

That is PoppySue's picture Kell. I hope I'm remembering that right. It sure helped me when I was first starting.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

We sure have plenty of hot sun and water here in South Texas, but I've never had any luck with Lisianthus either. I bring them home from the nursery covered in blooms and shortly thereafter they die. I thought maybe I watered them too much.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Brinda, email me your address and I will send you some pollen. I live in (well, near anyway!) Tulsa, so it shouldn't take long to get there. I'll have to go through my stuff to see what I have, but can definitely send you enough to get you started!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Ronna....thanks so much for the pollen. It was here when I got in from work last night! Thanks again!!!

And Kell....I hope I said thanks for the pollen. It is all tucked away just waiting on more blooms!!!! Thank you, THANK YOU!!! Woooooooohoooo, I am ready now! LOL

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Getting excited here ... getting small buds on mine. A big Thank You to Tracey!!! Just beautiful Brinda.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

WOW! She's a bloomin' beauty!

It's good to get a "refresher course" on Brug Sexology 101! Especially for anyone interested at trying their hand at creating new crosses.
