I noticed these leaves on this brug yesterday, the top new grow on this plants has these deformed leaves. I have checked for bugs, but see none. Please help, I don't know what to do for this plant. Thanks, Cathy
What's wrong with this brug
Used any chemicals lately? Were they really super dry to the point of wilt, and you fertiized?
No chemicals and it's been raining here just about every day or every other day. So they haven't had a chance to dry out. Could it be to wet? These plants are planted in the ground with out a pot up against my house.
Mites? Did you look at the underside with a magnifying glass or a loop?
Hmmm... it does look like it could be damage from mites. Some of them are very tiny and almost impossible to see! I have also seen powdery mildew cause damage like that but I've never had a brug get PM so maybe we should rule that out?
Check the undersides of the leaves for green peach aphids. They can make the leaves look like that too.
I keep checking for bugs, I'll look again. These leaves are curled and stiff, do you think it would hurt to cut them off. If they are green peach aphids what should I spray on them. Calalily, a lot of my brug seedling are y'ing and setting buds. I'll take pictures when they bloom. Some of the plants are really tall, and some are short, same crosses from the seeds I bought from you. Thanks for your help. Cathy
Are they brittle and getting thick? When I get what I think are broad mites ( I never see anything) that is what happens to me.
They seem to always attack the new growth. Here is a pic on mine but after it has been treated so the new growth that has come out since is normal. But look at the lower tier leaves.
Kell, I forgot about the broad mites!
Cathy, if it's aphids, just mix water and alcohol 1:1 with a squirt of some mild dish soap and spray them. If it's mites, use Avid or Kelthane.
Thanks Kell, that's exactly what my brugs look like, and I will look for some Kelthane. Thanks for all your help. Cathy
I used Avid on mine and it hardly stopped them long enough for lunch! I have found only Neem oil works. I put on plastic disposable gloves and fill a hand pump sprayer and spray the bottom of each and every leaf. I rarely have to treat a brug twice esp if I treat at the first sign of curling.
