Hoya 'Rainforest Beauty'

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Recently got a cutting of this one (among others) from Norway. Anyone here know out of which Hoya species this one is hybridized from?
I believe its a MM creation but I'm not sure.

Panamon, I can't thank you enough for your help. That is what why this forum was started. Helping each other. Norma
Now which one are you referring to. I recently recieved 40 MM creations. I can't possibly guess what they are just from leaf. Norma

I fogot, many of the people from Sweden, and overseas collected their own. I do have a list of some of those, they may have figured them out by now. The Norway bunch are pretty dependable, and take pride in knowing and getting the name right. Norma

Norma, the one I'm talking about is called 'Rainforest Beauty', leaves look similar to H. archboldiana.

Picture, please...pretty please. There are a number of crosses with H. onychoides and H. archboldiana.

Norma...be careful with your MM creations...he wasn't careful saving out the best and it has caused lots of confusion.

I will call Michael tomorrow and ask him.

Here is the picture.
Just potted it a few days ago so had to force the leaf to point up for the picture.

The Scandinavians seem to be the biggest Hoya collectors around and I'm happy to have some Hoya contacts in Sweden and Norway.
Just look at Hoya related websites and you'll find that the scandinavians have the best ones :).

My grey matter seems to be waking up a bit and I have a faint re-collection that "Rainforest Beauty" may be a hybrid out of H. archboldiana and macgillivrayi but I'm not sure.

You guys are so lucky with your contacts!

Milan, here is what Michael said: (remember, at this time hoyas were still in a name-muddle and folks used all kinds of nicknames which were incorrect....but it gives you an idea).

"H. cv. Rainforest Beauty is (H. macgillivrayi X H. macgillivrayi superba aka H. cv. Rainforest) X (H. macgillivrayi X H. archboldiana 4148 aka H. cv. Beauty). Now I am not sure if the original H. macgillivrayi used in the mac by mac cross with the now H. onychoides or the one we used to call Big Big Mac.

"Mac superby is the larger form that Ted sold. The Mac in the mac X arch cross is the one Liddle sold as "Coen River" or something like that.

"Very complicated cross"

Now...this doesn't shed too much light, as I wasn't around when the H. macgillivrayi/H. onychoides muddle was going around...and there are many clones of H. macgillivrayi...and memory, being what it is, can be sketchy-especially when we are talking about hybrids X hybrids...

Can't imagine that this helps...but I would LOVE a cutting just to see what it looks like when blooming.

I do have a H. archboldiana X H. onychoides hybrid...can't wait for blooms!

Thanks for the info Carol, already thought you forgot me :).

My goodness my eyes where rolling backwards reading through the hybrid of hybrid of hyb..... on this one. Sounds like the label of some of my Paph. orchids LOL.
It helps anyways and will make sure that it is documented in the PDB file of this one so that others can see what this hybrid is about.
Yes the macgillivrayi and onychoides mix-up in the past can make things even more complicated (I think megalaster is that mix-up mix too). I myself am still looking for macgillivrayi and megalaster but one always has to wonder if its not onychoides (which I already have) I'm going to get.
Will take some time but I'll get you a cutting once it's ready for one :).'
BTW Carol, don't forget my "Canadian experiment".

Milan - more info, even when you didn't ask for it!!!

Talked to Christine about this cross. Seems that at that time, H. macgillivrayii was quite new...and anything with an extra pimple on it was being given a nickname. So...the cross should read: H. macgillivrayi (self seeded) X H. macgillivrayi x H. archboldiana4148. No H. onychoides in there at all.

Now...H. archboldiana4148 is like a small H. archboldiana. Dr. Paul Forster and David Liddle have lumped it together with H. archboldiana - but for Christine the jury is still out.

Haven't forgotten you Milan...up to my neck in alligators! Still haven't folded the laundry and we are running out of clothes! Aha...but my hoyas are all fine, thank you!!!

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Just send me a round trip ticket for HI and I'll fold the laundry for you, I'll even trim some of the Hoyas for you before they get out of hand and I'll make sure the cuttings are disposed of so that they are not in your way ever :).

At this point, Milan, your offer is VEEERY tempting!!!

Can you show us a picture of your H. macgillivrayi X H. macgillivrayi superba aka H. cv. Rainforest) X (H. macgillivrayi X H. archboldiana 4148 aka H. cv. Beauty now Milan?

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Once I untwist it from the others when I put it outside maybe. Right now I can't get at it for a picture :)

LOLOL .....I'm looking forward to seeing *how* much it has grown. :)
