just wanted to

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

drop in and say hi to everyone. I haven't been around much lately because a lot has been going on.

I've been working about 55-60 hours a week on my job,i've had quite a few out of town family members visiting over the past few weeks,my computer had to go to the shop and then get a total wipe out done on it,my vcr blew up,my telvision went out,the air cleaner quit and this past friday my 84 year old grandmother who is my only living grandparent had a stroke so things have been quite hectic this past month.

My brugs along with all the other plants are doing fine, just not getting much in the way of blooms at the moment. All of the pictures that you all are posting of seedlings are really nice.

Thanks for the prayers and thoughts for my grandmother. I visit the hospital every day after work. I'd like to be able to stay with her but obviously can't afford to quit my job to do so even with all the OT that I work.
She's been in there since friday afternoon and I can see changes every day with her speech and movement and she wasn't even supposed to begin therapy until this morning.
I've also found out that when she was admited on friday that her BP was 274/146. NOT GOOD!! That has since been stableized.
Gardening has been pushed to the back burner for a while. I've been coming in from work, making a quick sweep around the yard, turning on the water if needed and off to the hospital. With any luck things will improve enough for her that she'll be able to come home and be well enough to do for herself ,at least to an extent anyway. She'll be looked after very well though because both of her sons and their families all live with 3 minutes of her house.
I'll keep updating as I find out things.

Auburn, WA(Zone 8b)

David, I am sending best wishes & prayers to you, your grandmother and your family. I'm glad you are seeing improvement already. They do have some medicine that can work wonders if given soon enough after a stroke. I hope she got some. I'm sure just seeing you every day is helping her a lot.

Tmorrow will be a week since the stroke and her admittance to the hospital. I've worked every day since then and beent ot he hospital every day also. Today I am physically and mentaly exhausted.
Been leaving for work at 5:30am work until 3:30pm go directly to the hospital, stay until 10:00pm come home, wind down a bit ,shower go to bed and once i'm asleep good the alarm goes off so I can get up and start the whole routine over again.
Therapy started for her yesterday and went well from what the nurse told me except for onem onor problem with my g-ma not helping to push herself up much.
when I got there yesterday after work everyone had left so she was alone. Shortly after me gettign there her dinner arrived.I cut her meat for her but allowed her to do all of the work herself as far as using the fork and spoon. Her right side is the side affected by the stroke and is the one that she should be trying to use to eat with since she is right handed.
Because she has no feeling in the hand or leg due to the stroke she is unaware of when she is actually holding something and when she isn't. I decided since it was just the two of us at the time I would push her to use the right hand and the fork to eat instead of the left hand with or without the fork.
I had to keep reminding her to just think about what she is trying to do and concentrate on it,put teh fork in the right hand and stab the food and then bring it up to your mouth. I could tell after a while she was getting a little flustered but I didn't give in to her and then told her that I talked with the nurse about how the first day of therapy went and was told that she didn't give 100%. I then had to remind her about the right hand and the fork what happened next was too funny and totaly unexpected. She stopped chewing and looked at me and said you're a hateful son of a @#$&?
I just told her that's okay, right now I may be a hateful SOB,but you on the other hand are going to eat with the right hand and with the fork and she did finish eating her dinner like that.

Tracey,as for the BP she does take meds for it,along with meds for diabetes and nitro for the heart. She doesn't take the meds on a regular basis though becasue she sleeps all day,is up all night until I pass for work in the morning. She doesn't eat right,is very inactive, slightly over weight and eats sweets when she thinks her sugar is alright.

None of the docotrs or nurses will give me any info on what they think the overall outcome will be for her,but in my own opinion I think it will be good because as I said earlier I can see a difference in her every day as far as being able to say things and just the way she looks.

Well,i'll stop here because I know this is the wrong forum to be posting this type of stuff and I don't want anyone to get mad becasue I posted material other than what should have been.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

David, I hope she continues to improve. Sounds like she's improving and getting contary with calling you a SOB. LOL
Now you need to get some rest.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

David, I hope that your grandmother will have a speedy recovery.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

David, I am wishing the best for you and your family.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sounds like she is so lucky to have you. I am glad she is doing so much better.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

David, your grandmother is so lucky to have a grandson like you. I know that she appreciates you, even if she is feeling too scared and ornery to let you know right now. I'm sure she is feeling very vulnerable, and from what you have said she has been very independent up until now and is afraid of losing that independence. Keep doing what you are doing, and both of you will be rewarded for the effort.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Sounds as if she's a "spunky" ole girl. This will get her through it better than everyone telling her what to do. She will want to start eating and holding things in her right hand. They are like kids, you tell them what to do, they will fight to keep their independence and do it THEIR way.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Please take care of yourself David, for her and for yourself!!
