Looking for special mango seeds

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Anybody know where I can find seeds for Pakistan grown Mangos: Chaunsa, Anwar ratol or Langra. Langra would be my first choice. But any of the above are to die for. Not like any mangos I have tasted that are currently imported to US.

Thanks for your help.

Yes you are right ,Pakistani Mangos are one the best in the world , I am from Pakistan ,have alot of seeds Chaunsa, Anwar ratol and Langra , because in these days mango season is started, seeds are too big .I think not possible to send from pakistan to USA.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Gumlla,

Thank you for responding. You are so lucky to have these mangos. The mangos we get here in the states are imported from Mexico. Although the are also big and beautiful, they do not taste as good as the Pakistan Mangos. You are right don't think they will be allowed to come to us from Pakistan.

Thanks again,

Daisy

You are always welcome , from seeds of mangos you cannot have a good plant , Pods of good mango plants is attached on small plant of mango .We say it here pawand kari , dont know english words , will tell you after consuting dictionary.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

gumlla,

Thank you for the information. Is sounds like this mango is grafted on to a hardier roots stock. No problem. I know how to graft. But first have to get seeds to grow, then take graft from the seedling. No need to translate. I have a friend that speaks "Urdu" and is trying to teach me. This is the language you used? Or is it Panjabi? I know a few very few words.

Thank you again,

Daisy

Fantastic, You know a little urdu , we can speak urdu and punjabi both, where your friend from? I will try to send you few seeds of mango plants, But after few days .

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

The mangoes from Mexico and California are usually Kents. They're pretty, so they sell well, but after trying a Pakistani or Thai mango (my favorite is Nam Dok Mai), you'll think that eating a Kent is like chewing a dish cloth tainted with turpentine.

You may want to see if you can find scion wood and grafting the varieties unless you know that they will come true from seed. Some do, but often don't. You might be able to get some scion wood from a local exotic fruit club.

Flowerjunkie,
Have you tried Ataulfo mangoes from Mexico? Really nice flavor, quite tangy, but I avoid Mexican grown produce unless it is certified organic. Usually Mexico's produce is fertilized with untreated sewer water, because of the expense of water treatment, and oncologists have told friends of mine to avoid eating it because of the viruses and bacteria that come along with that watering practice.
Pink Lotus

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

So I've heard, and they don't have the pesticide regulations we do either. I don't know about Mexico, but American companies are still selling DDT to other countries by the ton.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I get a delivery box of organic produce biweekly, and last year we got some Ataulfo mangos in there. I thought they were *amazing* (but I've never tasted a Pakistani mango). I sprouted one of the seeds and now it's a very cute house plant (currently taking a summer holiday on the back porch).

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Pinklotus,

Yes. I have tried all the Mexican Mangos. My brother is a produce broker located in McAllen, Texas most of the produce he buys is shipped to HEB and other very well known grocery chains. I wasn't aware of the sewer fertilization. Hmm. Oh well we in the states are contaminating our water supply with sewer. That's why I drink bottled water. Maybe the same stuff put in a bottle but I feel better knowing I'm not drinking from the tap! YUK! How did I get on that subject. I have eaten mangos bought off the street vendors in Mexico which is suppose to be a NO NO. I have a iron clad stomach. Have been doing this for year. I do know that when traveling to other countries and eating the local foods "I" am the only one not coming down with any kind of virus so I have a wonderful time eating everthing I want while my friend who won't even drink the water are hanging out in the bathroom. Maybe its all the herbs I take to elimiate parasites in the body or maybe its the Mango and hot peppers! ;-}

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

Probably the herbs. Fennel and turmeric are a great help. Hot peppers knock out bacteria too. What have you been taking?

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Agrinerd,

I take garlic, black walnut, cloves, papaya seed, pumpkin seed, PauD'Arco bark, woodberry, butternut root bark, wormseed, propolis, boneset leaf, echinacea, isatis root, horehound, bioflavonoids, astragalus root, angelica root, mullein leaf, flax seed, plus Centrum Performance multivitamin. I eat jalapeno, garlic and onions cooked in my dinners.

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

Wow. That should do it. I try to keep up on parasites (they are much more prevalent than most would believe), but the papaya seeds are a new one on me. I'll have to look that one up.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Wow, flowerjunkie... a walking herbal! I knew papaya was good for us, but didn't know about the seed.

Do you take all that on a daily basis?

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

darius,

Yes. I take these daily. Some I have to take two and three times a day. I'm 49 years old and I look 35. Reason is all my herbs, vitamins and minerals I take to suppliment my diet. If you want to stay young you have to do it from the inside out.

Flowerjunkie: I am certainly not an expert on mangos but was wondering about Taiwanese mangos. would they be any different than the locally grown ones you have been discussing. My daughter will be returning from Taiwan in about 3 or 4 weeks and is bringing back some very unusual fruits (seeds) and items she has never seen before. I am addicted to growing anything strange and unusual. But, the question is, would an ordinary mango grown in Taiwan be any different than those here. Any info would be appreciated.
By the way, my sister is a herbalist, takes alot of the stuff you do and is 51 and looks like 35. Might be some truth to that stuff. Too late for me, I like my steak and beer. Ha. Thanks

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

nadabigfarm,

I'm not sure of Taiwanese mangos. I have not ever seen any in our margets in Houston or South Texas and we have a huge Taiwanese community here. I know that one of the best mangos in the states (does not compare to Pakistani Mangos) is the ‘Nam Doc Mai’ of Thailand. This is a fiberless mango.

It would be interesting to see what you daughter brings back from Taiwan.

Its never too late to reverse the signs of aging. You could add several healthy years on to the back end of your life span. May be something to talk to your sister about. I just think that if I'm going to live to 90 I don't want to spend it in an old folks home slobbering all over myself and having to wear diapers. Better go take my vits. and herbs. LOL

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

Flowerjunkie: I'll have to call a friend in Naples, FL to see if he can find the Pakistani mangoes you mentioned (aside from asking if he survived hurricane Carlos). He started the local manngo council there.

Nadabigfarm: Flowerjunkie is right. It's never too late. I started big into herbs in my 30s to combat a horrendous case of psoriasis (20 years of heavy and chronic pesticide exposure can take its toll). I'm still battling the psoriasis, but nobody believes I'm 45 now. I look at people my own age and think, "What happened?!". The occasional steak and dark beer are still a favorite treat. You just have to leran how to compensate.

Agrinerd and FJ,

Thanks for the encouraging words. My sister fought back cancer through the use of herbs and has been cancer free for over 5 years now. She grinds and powders and makes encapsulated pills and is doing real well. Got my mother off a lot of medications also. FJ, what do you use papaya seeds for? If I find out anything about Taiwanese mangos, I will post it. I already have lined up some white pineapple and some kind of kiwi fruit that is the size of a softball. Gotta see that one. Well you guys buckle up for that hurricane and try to keep your feet dry. Thanks for your witty words of wisdom........Scott

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Dasiy have you checked e-Bay? I saw someone had several different plants the other night. Don't know if it was what you were looking for or not. I was looking at gingers when I found it on someone site.

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

Kiwi... softball... ? What's that one?

Gardena, CA

Agrinerd, Have absolutely no idea. She called the other day and told me about it, Has a different shell/rind/skin but is definately Kiwi fruit inside. Aparently, they have a lot of hybrids over there. I truely have no idea but will find out next month when my daughter and the ex returns. I have already told them that if they want to surprise me with a gift, bring me some seeds. Ha. Also told them to get me the names in Chinese and perhaps I can get them translated into English or Latin. All I know is that they are bringing me some "stuff". My daughter (16) and the ex has trouble telling the difference between a Palm tree and a Pine tree, however, they are both good cooks, and they are bringing back some stuff they have never seen before. My ex, who is Taiwanese, is a great cook and into organics and has also replyed that she has never seen this stuff before. I really have no idea what is coming home. She says that she talked to a farmer over their and they water pineapple with sour milk and powdered milk and the result is a white pineapple ????? That doesn't sound right to me ?? Since they don't have cows and milk in Taiwan, that doesn't make sense ?? However, she has proof of a white pineapple sold in the markets at high dollar. Will keep you posted..
FLOWERJUNKIE, ..............I apologize for getting off the subject of mangoes. This is your thread and we should return to your subject................nada

Asked your daoghter for Pinapple seeds or small plant. That will be a great addition in your garden.

Gardena, CA

I already have a few growing but they never come out a big as those in the market. This is flowerjunkie's thread so I guess we should be talking about mangos. By the way, how do you spell the plural. Is it mangos or mangoes??

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

nadabigfarm
Mangos are mangoes, you cant change their taste with spells.............Have you ever tasted Pakistani Mangoes? In Pakistan we have the world's most tasty mangoes. Some species are very Popular such as Anwar ratol, Dosary, Langra, Chonsa ...etc,
If once you taste Pakistani Mango, you will never like others.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

nadabigfarm,

I use the PAPAYA seed as an intestinal parasite cleaner. But its used in combination with other herb, not alone.

In SPANISH and ENGLISH Mango plural form is spelled the same way; Mangos! LOL!

No need to apologize for getting off subject. Its all good conversation.

Donna,

Have not been to eBay for the mangos I want. However, I really don't expect to find them in the US. But I will check next chance I get. Thanks!

Agrinerd,

I like your ID! Itsn't it amazing how the herbs seem to just get to the root of the problem and deal with it and be done with it.

In October of 2003 I started having neck pain which gradually went to my right shoulder and arm, lower back, right leg, then my left arm and constant headaces. I started seeing a chiropractor our of desperation and because I feared surgury if I went to see my sports doctor. He "adjusted" me a few time then ordered MRI on my spine. I didn't like the neck adjustment as they were very painful and this was a very big guy, I'm only 5'2"! I felt tense whenever he got near me. I was also not pleased with his evaluation. He said I had 3 herniated disc in my neck and 4 in my lower back. He said I would never be pain free and that I could probably have a close to normal life but would need surgery. He refered me to a orthopedic surgeon for "good drugs and surgery options". He also said I had to limit my yard work and couldn't lift anything heavier that 25#. Ummm, potting soil bags weighs 40#. I told him I was not happy with the future he had laid out for me. Never went back to see him and did not go to the orthopedic surgeon. I went to see my Chinese Doctor. He told me "NO SURGERY". Gave me some herbs to take along with some nasty teas for a period of two months. The pain started to subside almost immediately. Now I'm seeing a massage therapist once a week. Her specialty is unblocking meridians. I have no more pain anywhere in my body. I'm doing all my yard work and can't remember the last time I had to take advil! When I was seeing the chiropractor I was taking 4 advil and one 20 mg. Feldine in order to dull the pain enough so I could sleep. I was taking advil all day long. Way too much to do me any good especially when I am a person that does not take drugs. I'm now getting into Yoga to strengthen the back and neck and using my stair master every morning. I too look at people younger than me and wonder how they got so old. I have 4 younger siblings that get very angry when I'm introduce to thier friends and the question is asked "How much younger are you than so n so?" LOL

Edited to correct spelling ....... :-)

flowerjunkie, Thanks for the spelling lesson. wow, seems like you definately found the Fountain of Youth. Yep, we are what we eat. I have never heard of mango seeds being an intestinal cleanser before but apparently it works. I eat a lot of garlic and onions (yep, you can smell me coming) and that usually works. I also eat a lot of really hot chillies and that helps too. That is also useful for parasites in chickens for what its worth. I have several hot pepper plants that a friend of mine gave me from El Salvador (spelling) that will knock your socks off. Much hotter than habineros but have no idea what species it is. The more I hear about natural herbs and hollistic healing, the better it sounds. Pretty soon, we might be able to put a few doctors out of business with all this natural, no nonsense type of healing. Perhaps you should start a thread on natural healing, you certainly seem to be an expert in these matters as well as my sister in Arizona. It must be great to walk down the street with your daughter and be confused with being her sister. Ha. Great for all us guys though. I will definately look for you in the garden.......nada

Flowerjunkie:

Can you please share your with me your Chinese Doctor's name, etc. and what herbs you took..... I am in Kingwood, so not too far away..... I have had problems very similar to yours (I'm 32 and 5'2", like you) and have been to chiropractor, physical therapy, and an acupuncturist, to no (lasting) avail. Thanks much; sorry for being off the main topic.

nadabigfarm,

The "PAPAYA" seeds (not mango seeds) are used in the parasite clean. LOL.

Onions and Garlic, especially garlic which is a natural antibiotic are very good for the immune system. You are probably free of any viruses or colds due to these items in your diet. Peppers are also are high in medicinal properties. My Grandfather lived to be 89. He was run over by a motorist while riding his bike one evening, a daily ritual for him. He rode his bike from San Juan Texas to McAllen Texas every morning and back every evening. He only lived 7 days in the hospital after the accident. He had severe head injuries, broken ribs and legs. The doctor said "IF" he lived he would be a vegatable and my grandfathers heart was like that of a 20 year old which was why he was still alive after all his body had been through. Prior to the hospital stay my grandfather had never seen a doctor because he had never been sick a day in whole life. He drank aloe vera water every day when he was at home, ate lots of raw onion, garlic and peppers. He smoked the roll your own Bugler's and drank beer every night with his dinner. This was proof enough for me that there has to be something to herbal medicine. So I started doing some research on my own.

I think we will always need Doctors for required surgery and other problems we have that herbal medicine can not heal. But it sure is nice to know tht you have an option for other ailments.

Hmmm. I guess that's why my daughter decided to have a baby right after she got married at 18! People always thought we sisters. She made sure to tell my 8 year old grandson to yell "Grandma" at the top of his lungs in puplic as soon as he learned how to talk. When people see me with my grandson they think he is mine. LOL. Now I have two grandson. My son (28) just had his first child this past Wednesday. He is so proud.

Gardena, CA

flowerjunkie,

Cute baby, cute daughter, happy father, very proud grandmother. wow, FJ, you are simply amazing. Your grandfather was in such excellent health at 89. I hope I can still walk and talk when I reach that age. Aloe vera, one of my favorite plants. I use it all the time for burns, rashes and insect bites. I have found that if I put it in the worst area of the yard, hard compact, alkaline soil and never water or take care of it, it grows like a weed. When I baby it with good soil, water and fertilizer, it will die. My sister in AZ has it exposed to full sun in 115 plus weather, very dry desert and it flourishes there too. It even grows across the sidewalk. I have heard of it being taken internally so I tried sucking on a leaf once. Wow, I puckered up for the whole day and probably looked like a baboon drinking vinegar. That was the absolute worst tasting thing I have ever experienced. Tell me your secret. How in the world do you drink Aloe juice. Is that your facial exercise plan. I am sure if I had to drink that stuff again, I could wiggle my ears with practice. Very curious......nada

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

nada,

The aloe vera is cut in half length wise and put into a water container in your refrigerator. You can drink from this when ever you want, but the best properties in aloe vera are obtained from fresh aloe. So you should probably not drink from the same tea for more than a day. Otherwise there is no point in walking around looking like a baboon! LOL.

Daisy
