Isalo Aloe (Aloe isaloensis)
Hi palmbob, I obtained that plant recently from the Jardin Botanique "La tête d'or" in Lyon France, it is flowering now in Corsica. A few days ago, I searched in Internet about Aloe isaloensis and I had a great surprise to see that your plant nor mine is Aloe isaloensis!!! The website "aluka" gives the picture reproduced in the flora of Madagascar and the file which comes from Kew Gardens, has been put by Henk Beentje (you should know him as he worked with John Dransfield on Palms of Madagascar). Well, it is obvious on the picture that Aloe isaloensis has large leaves and very small internodes which is not the case in our "Aloe isaloensis"
I would be very grateful to hear from you about this, you may write directly to my e-mail: jacquesdeleuze@wanadoo.fr
By the way, I am pretty sure we know each other via International Palm Society!
regards, jacques

not sure how to explain the problem, but obviously one of these two plants is not isaloensis... there is a nice page devoted to Aloe isaloensis in Rauh's book on Succulent plants of Madagascar (volumne 2, page 287) where he shows 5 different looks of this plant, and all match the plant in the photo above.. a suckering, thin-leaved plant with a small conical raceme of orange/yellow flowers. Desert-Tropical website also shows a photo of Aloe antandroi describing it as a close relative of Aloe isaloensis, and it, too, is a similar plant to our photo above. I have a feeling the photos on those other pages are of Aloe imalotensis, as they match pretty closely, and someone has made an error.
I looked up Aloe isaloensis in Reynold's 'bible' Aloes of Tropical African and Madagascar, and we have the right plant.. those two other photos on the web are simply wrong, and very likely Aloe imalotensis.
thank you for your answer i will go on the web to look at "Aloe imalotensis" ; but there is no doubt that Reynold's and Rauh's books are obviously surer for identifying plants!!!
