Sunray

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

I have a Sunray that is growing just fine except that the leaves are a very light green. It looks like it needs a good dose of iron, but I'm afraid to add some. Is it okay to add some Ironite to it or is light green the normal color?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

It's fine, Pins, Sunray has lighter green leaves than most of the others, almost a lime green on the new leaves.

Mine are very light too. If it isn't planted in the ground you might want to allow it only morning sun. Mine wilts terribly in the heat. Also, rather than Ironite, you might want to use a natural chelated iron supplement like Green Lite. There was a thread here earlier this year on the dangers of Ironite to humans. I'll try to find it and post back here.

Well...you can't search through old threads and posts like you used to be able...tsk, tsk... Here is basically the information that was posted on this forum a few months ago:

It kind of makes you want to think twice about using it. Gretchen :)

Pins, Sunray is always a lighter green then the other forms. It varies from species to species and variety to variety, so just feed it every other week in the summer with 20-20-20 water soluable fertilzer and it will grow just fine. :-)

Thanks for all the information! Gretchen, I couldn't follow your link, as it said just blank. I'd love to find out about Ironite.

My brugs do just get morning sun. Everyone else is doing great. I just worry about the dark green veins and light green leaf color of this one.

Also, I can't find 20-20-20. Can I use 10-10-10 every week instead of every two weeks? (As you can tell, I know nothing...)

Pins, that link didn't work for me either. I think the problem with Ironite is it contains trace amounts of lead and arsenic, which can contaminate your soil. I think it's made from reprocessed mine waste. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! I use the Green Light liquid iron supplement (which also has other minerals) BTW, the foliage on my Sunray is also pale green - I was concerned at first too but I've since found out this is normal.

Any Lowes or Home Depot store sells either Peters brand 20-20-20 or Miracle Gro brand of the same formulation.Walmart sells their brand of 15-30-15 which works too. :-)

I don't know why I can't get it to work...www.watoxics.org/content/pdf/IroniteConsumerFacts
Try copying and pasting the web address, that should work...

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

I Googled Ironite Consumer Facts and came up with a Minnesota website with great information. Maybe this will work, too. (I couldn't get the last link to work even with copying and pasting.)

I have grown Sunray,it does run lighter in color.
This is one of Eclipses Brugs,it is normal,he is even telling you this, other then getting a good fert for it,like he suggested,I would not try putting any chemicals on it to change the color.

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

I will only use the fert then and not worry about the leaf color. One less thing to fill up my brain. lol

Thanks to all.

Gretchen, the problem with your last stab at putting a link on is because you didn't leave a space between the ....and www. etc. If you would go back and edit that post, putting a space in, hit preview, I'm sure it would work then. There must always be a space before and after you copy and paste a link into a post. I always preview when I'm putting a link in to make sure it is going to be there. If it comes up saying hyperlink@ and nothing else, you know it is incomplete. Computers!! Can't live with them and can't live without them. Hope this helps.

Yes Shirley, I know. It did not work that way, or anyway I tried to link it....guess they don't want anyone to link to their site. Thanks for your input though!!!
