But it wasn't anything I did, must have been the birds,or more like the BEE'S!
Caerula fruiting as well..
Might have been a sport from another plant that they kept growing on and propagate by cuttings.
Can't draw a straight line myself!
But thats real good!
I was at a nursey today and found some old fruit from a P. caerula with seeds in it. Can I grow plants from these? About half were still wet with pulp, what are my chances of germination?
This might help with some of your questions Monterey:
http://www.passionflow.co.uk/naming.htm There is a continuation at the bottom of the page.
I've interlibrary loaned in Vanderplank's book a couple of times...you have a great book and it is one I will be owning sooner or later!
The cover alone makes me drool! ;)
Time to buy one!!!
Monterey, the only way to get an exact duplicate of the parent plant is to propagate it by cuttings. Propagating by cuttings will yield a vine which is genetically the same as the parent. If you were to sow seeds of P. violacea, it would mostly likely yield a different-looking Passiflora because the seeds are the result of cross pollination and thus are hybrids just as P. violacea is a hybrid of P. caerulea and P. racemosa. There can be hundreds, if not more, of different variations from the seeds of two parents, and I imagine only the best of the best are selected for propagation by cuttings and distribution to commercial enterprises. I believe that only the self-pollinating Passiflora come true to their parents.
But I could get a neat new variety. Dr. Frankenmotereystein, at your service. Actually according to Vanderplank I might not even have seeds in them, or thier sterile. What about the P. caerulea seeds I got from the nursery? I planted some so will see.
Well if you see pods growing,,,whatever you do,
DON'T FALL A SLEEP!!!!!LOL!
Remember body snathchers!!!!
I did see Kevin Mc' Carthy slinking around out there!
Monterey, yes, you could get a new hybrid if the seeds are viable. The P. caerulea seeds could also yield a hybrid. Good luck!
Monterey, was he with Dana Wynter,or Carolyn Jones,or was it already to late for them???LOL!
Be careful,your telling your age!!!LOL!
Blooming very pretty, wish mine would bloom as could as yours!!!
I know about Ben Franklin ,but he was not in school with me. They have this new fangled televison, and they put the dangdest stuff on it.
Yeah, that Ben sure could fly a kite!!!
Oh MY!
What are feeding that Lady???
Only lady I know not on a diet!!!!LOL!
I alternate 10-52-10 and 15-30-15 Miracle-Gro about every 10 days I give one type, than after 10 days the other. They(my plants, all of them) are in containers and I water them a lot because we get NO rain at all. It leaches out the good stuff so I try to put it back in. Same on all of them(vitifolia).
Say gang,do you continually tuck in your vines to the trellis or let them run astray and wild?
I do with the ones in containers, and not so much the ones in the ground.
I tuck mine back into the trellis. P. Inscence (sp?) is determined to go it's own way but I am persistant. ;)
I have been letting them hang and comb them everyday.
Hi Don, I never fertilize mine because I have read that fertilization aids growth, and Passifloras don't need any assistance with growth! I have to constantly tuck them in and detach vines from their neighbors' limbs. Otherwise, they are likely to take over whatever is next to them.
I like monterey fertilize mine on a regular bases, for if they bloom on new growth I give them plenty to flower on,my incense bloomed for the first time today, but rained all day and couldn't get out tom get a picture of it.
Their like children, I give them everything and spank them when their bad!
LOL! Spoken like a mother!
Does anyone cut theirs back in the spring?
Ain't she just gorgeous!!!
I cut mine back if the growth is weak and leggy.
Congrats!
How old is that vine?
Well it's all over him!!!
