My wife and I moved here on 7/11/04 from Port Jefferson L.I., N.Y. I retired from the Alltate Insurance Co., after a 38 year career as a Senior Account Agent. My wife Patty is working as a Field Executive with the Girl Scouts (she has been involved in scouting since a little girl) and I drive a shuttle from Augusta to Atlanta airport 3 x weekly to keep somewhat busy. We have both found a new interest in gardening in general, although we are rank amateurs, and can kill plants, trees, lawns with the best of them
We intend to lay sod (St. Augustine) in a month or so, as weve been advised that St. A does well in shade, heat, and sandy soil. I have posted several threads regarding this, and would appreciate any advice which might be forthcoming.
Meanwhile, if you have any questions about us, or would like to ask Patty ANYTHING about quilting which is her passion, please dont hesitate to ask.

Greetings from Martinez Ga.
A big welcome to the two of you. I've been a member here for a year and am still a newbie as far as the whole gardening thing goes, this is definately the right place to be. You will find lots of good folk and find plenty expertise. Enjoy the site!
paul and patty - welcome and it sure is a small world. my newphew and sister-in-law live in port jeff. thats a long way on the expressway which i'm sure you don't miss at all. can't help you about the sod but i'm positive someone will get back to you about it. enjoy yourselves
Welcome to Daves from another Iowa member. Hope you get the answers you need. This type of grass isn't grown here that I know of. I also have done some hand quilting. Made and gave away 11 full sized quilts, all Log Cabin. Now that I'm using a computer (we old folks can learn how easier than I thought), I don't do the quilting anymore. I should get back to it since I have enough strips cut for about 15 more quilts. Anyway, nice to meet you. Hope to see you around the forums often.
Shirley
Welcome, glad to have you here!
Welome Patty and Paul, I'm good at killing lawns. Have turned mine into either garden or desert... LOL The desert part is easy as that's where I live. Just don't water and desert happens.
I would think driving an airport shuttle would definitely relieve any boredom that might be sneaking up on you. Are you thinking perennials or shrubs for your new area? Lawns are nice but it's the plants that give it character.
Welcome to DG! You'll find lots of great people here. I'm in Atlanta (inside 285) and love it. Watch out for the Georgia Round-up this fall. You'll get to meet lots of great folks there and swap plants to boot.
I'm a Girl Scout leader, too. My dd is working on her Gold Award at the new nature preserve beside the Mall of Georgia. Hope to meet y'all in person someday! (You'll learn to say y'all real fast, now.) lol
A big wave from Kentucky!
