Cypress Gardens

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Putting on a show, even though it is hotter than hades here, and the cucumber beetles are feasting....

That's spectacular!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Tracey, have you found anything that will stop those beetles? I'm going to try Talstar, then Merit. If those don't do it, I don't think there is much that will.

The only thing I have found is the bottom of my size nine and half shoe! There is supposed to be a new product made out of synthetic nicotine, but I can't remember the name, I will ask my inspector again.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Beauty!!! That is a good show.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Beautiful show ... I hope at least one of mine will do that this year.

I forgot to say how pretty she is. Got side tracked on the beetles. I had this one last year and my daughter wanted it, so I gave it to her and it is now gone...........Let's just say that growing brugs isn't easy for her. LOL!

Tracey, your Cypress Gardens is twice the size of mine... how old is your plant?

BTW, the synthetic nicotinyl is Merit (chemical name Imidacloprid - the same ingredient in Advantage flea and tick control for pets). It's non-toxic to animals and people when used as directed but lethal to insects. It's systemic too since it's absorbed by the foliage. 1/8 tsp per gallon sprayed weekly will wipe out insects of all types. DO NOT spray this stuff on plants visited by bees since it will kill them too.

[Edited to fix typo - correct mix of Merit 75% WP is 1/8 tsp per gallon]

Very pretty, Tracey. Cypress Gardens was my best bloomer last year. She really put on a show.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Imidacloprid is the active ingredient in the Bayer Systemic, or at least some of them.

My plant is going on its second year, and would probably do much better in a bigger pot, but I just can't handle those 20 to 25 gallon pots by myself. It will get a nice healthy root trim and new soil soon. Shirley want me to send her some? Is this Lori you are talking about? I would be happy to fix her up, she has certainly saved my hands this summer! If you all need Lotion this is the place to get it from! Her lotion bars are the best!

Tracey, they will be here in August and I don't think they could make it on their own out there. It is so dry. I'll get her fixed up this fall with some more brugs.

Whitewater, WI

It's a beauty!

I can't wait til mine blooms like this... sooooo pretty!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I missed this first time around. I do not want to see this one again for I can't have her. No room. And she is lovely!

Hey Tom, my Advantage bill is $40 a nonth now. I wonder f I can just put a drop of Bayer on my cats instead?

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

Kell, Cypress Gardens is small for a brug, sure you have room for it ;-)

Don't know if a Merit dip would be advisable for cats or not. I know some folks actually use Sevin dust on their cats - not me! Actually, my 2 kitties stay indoors all the time and have never had a single flea.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Tom, my Cypress Gardens was huge last year. I cut it back in the fall.It probably had three hundred blooms on it at one time. They were hanging on the ground. I lost the picture when my computer acted up or I'd love for you to have seen it.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

My cypress gardens is short in comparison to other brugs, but is a good bloomer, and almost every bloom develops a pod, critter pollinated of course, I have pods hanging from it everywhere!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Mary, mine hasn't bloomed but one bloom this year. I hope I didn't masacare it too much.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sound so tempting! LOL But I just potted up 50 brugs tonight. LOL. I am truly nuts.
